Hey, y'all. I posted this on the post-85 amps forum as well. I know little about Fender amps, but today I saw a "London Reverb" in a pawn shop. Any comments? They wanted 300.00 USD. Thanks.

i CAME ACROSS A london cabinet WITH 3X12'S IN IT.
I NEVER HEARD OF THEM AND PLAY BASICALLY NOTHING BUT 60'S fender amps.

I THINK THEY CAME OUT DURING THE solid state transition.

I'LL TAKE A LOOK AT THE BOOK.."THE SOUL OF TONE" 60 YEARS OF FENDER AMPS..I'M SURE THERE SHOULD BE SOMETHING ABOUT THEM IN THERE.

HANG IN AND iLL GET BACK WITH THE facts FOR YA...I TOO AM INTERESTED
IN WHAT THE ANSWER IS ABOUT THESE UNKNOWN AMPS AND CABINETS

WHAT WERE THE SPECS ON THE HEAD YOU SAW?????

i'LL GET BACK TO YA

OK, I to run out on another errand and stopped by the shop. The head says it's 100-watt output. Single EV 120 speaker. Made by Fender a CBS company. It has a five-position slide-type graphic equalizer. She's got some miles on her from the cosmetic look of things, the shop didn't have a patch cable so I could test drive (???), but all of the lights came on under power.

A quick search of this forum turned up a couple of other threads on the same topic, I'm off to do some reading. The 300.00 USD he's asking seems a little high for the physical condition, assuming the thing works.

Comments? Thanks.

DO you have a COMBO????

The book THE SOUL OF TONE talks briefly about them as it seems they were made in the early 80's and dropped within a couple years.
THE LONDON REVERB and the MONTREAUX were FENDER HIGH END SOLID STATE AMPS.

AT the time the also had the SHOWMAN and DUAL SHOWMAN.......IT seems from what I read that this terrible CBS ERA of stuff put out damn near killed FENDER.

It seems people were more inclined to STILL pay more for a TUBE AMP than go for the NEWER and more expensive SOLID STATE AMPS.

It seems at this time they started putting out the PRINCETON 11 and other amps that did not last to long......

The early 80's were not kind to FENDER except for the JV GUITARS made in JAPAN are now very collectible and some of the BEST GUITARS FENDER ever had there name on em !!!!

APPARENTLY the bottom line was they were experimenting as I am sure SOLID STATE was cheaper to build but the TONE WAS NOT THERE.

AS far as prices....I never see em for sale and ran across this cab by mistake and picked it up for 200.00 just to use as EXTRA SOUNDS IF NEEDED.

I doubt if this was much help but I also found a but of info by GOOGLEING and going to www.bing.com and searching for any info on this amp/

The choice is basically up to you but it also gave me the impression that parts are not gnna be easily found for this amp or the MONTREAUX.

That's about all I got for now.....I'll update as I find out more.

BTW...I love the cab as an extension speaker for my VIBRO CHAMP !!!!!

5 watts through 3x12's !!!! WOW

Our other guitar player had one, and it wasn't great; buzzy, not a great distorted sound and OK clean sound.

I'd save up and get a good used SF Deluxe or Princeton Reverb.

I apparently have one of a few 200 Watt London Reverb Showman.

It has a pretty good punch to it.

Problem is, I can't find the value of it. Even Fender replied back. "can't Help".

Can you post a pic of this "3x12" cabinet?

Here's a London Reverb I bought a while back from Music-Go-Round, shown here after a couple hours of cleaning and Arjay's suggested 409 treatment of the grill cloth. This one was in very good (though pretty dirty) condition (original owner traded it in) and also had the elusive (and much needed) foot switch with it. You need the foot switch to get the EQ and the Reverb to function.

Image

I paid $300 for mine with the foot switch that was also in very good condition and was fully functional. I also got a home-made extension speaker cabinet with mine that had a Fender logo emblem on it and a 12" Peavey speaker in it. I junked the cabinet right away - the Fender emblem was worth more than the cab.

$300 is too much if there is no foot switch or if it is really beat up. Maybe you could steal the London Reverb name plate (which mine is missing) and sell it to me... J/K.

I had a London Reverb I bought used about 1983? IIRC it had 2x10 speakers, it was a combo and it did have the EQ and the footswitch. I don't remember much about the amp to be honest. I don't recall having problems with it, but I really don't remember much about how it sounded. I was about 14 -15 years old at the time. I do remember blasting "green onions" with my band at at the time 3-4 times a week!

I know that this is a 4 year old Post, but if any others who are looking at this forum.I do and still own my London Reverb and yes it's not a Marshall or tube amp,but it does plays very well if you set your settings right,it will sound fantastic if not, great.I bought it in 1983 and still have the pedal that came with it,it was an option to have it with the amp. I still play it and it sounds strong after all this years owning it,no,I won't sell it,I will pass it on to my daughters who are also musicians. It looks as the day I bought it,clean and powerful. It's the 100 watt version ,I did have the manual but,one of my friend lost it while making a copy at the Music store,I could have ring his neck off.I drove the amp with a half stack Marshall and you couldn't tell the difference that it was a Fender, don't get me wrong,it does play like it with the correct settings, there were many settings on the amp that would allow it to do.You can also add inline your separate effects plug IN and OUT's at the rear of the amp as well. The reverb section was the great full size Fender sound, clean channel was played on the clean port and the the distortion side is run through my switching pedal. The EQ's sliders was really great to tune in your tones. This version was the Combo with one Fender specialized speaker 12" at 100 watts of clean power coming out from a solid state version,what...yes,solid state with some large capacitors in it,4 of them.I check out the circuit and it is well made for it's time of the solid state wars. I heard from one of the reps of the Music store in Dublin,Ca. on why they made this model was from Steve Rivera that used to design some of Yamaha's amps and later left the company and did play some role in the Fender products and now Steve's makes his own models in the tubes design.Anyway my London Reverb is a keeper and not For Sale............:)

Had a friend that played in a metal band that had one of these and it was tailor made for that style of playing. He got great tones out of it and he gigged steady with it for at least 4 years weekly and it never let him down. His was a 1x12 combo but he powered a 4x12 with it too. Would be great to see some pics.
