NOT to disagree with those who say check EBAY....but EBAY has become a BUYER BEWARE SITE and has lost a lot of it's MUSICAL SALES due to the GIBSON Repro CHINESE stuff and a few guys building FENDERS and selling em as FENDERS....

FOR he BEST way to figure out what VINTAGE GEAR sells for check out VINTAGE GUITAR MAGAZINE.......nothing butt VINTAGE DEALERS and EVERYTHING here is FOR REAL and these people make there money on VINTAGE GEAR.

SO there prices are a bit more to reality than EBAY.....I would trust a VINTAGE DEALER buying an amp from him before I would trust some guy whose selling a 66 SUPER REVERB and thinks he can ship it no problems...

MOST SALES are not for the cash they are because the person is having some problem and wants to $@! it off before it gets bigger.

This is why I like VINTAGE GUITAR MAGAZINE most dealers offer return policies, most are well known at what there specialty is and can be trusted.

Just my 2 cents....NOTHING is better than knowledge so IMO buy some books for 20 bucks a piece prior to dropping a few Gs on a VINTAGE AMP or Guitar.

Hope this helps a bit

The only thing I'd buy off eBay in musical instruments is pedals. Too many forgeries.

Hi Mobi, that amp could be very desirable. But as St.James points out, it's originality would determine it's value. Vintage Guitar Mag. will give you a reasonable idea of the market value. But you will have to get an experienced amp tech to open it up and tell and/or show you the vintage of the components. The transformers and pots can be dated. I'm an old geezer amp repair guy, and the work done in Fullerton is very evident. ART

When I have been looking for amps, effects, etc. to buy, I look at all of the available options. Ebay is great for getting a general feel for prices as long as there are a number of completed sales for the same thing/similar, but the downside is not being able to try it in person.

Vintage Guitar Magazine is another good source of info, as is this site, the Fender Field Guide site, and others. By using the information for dating the amp in question and then seeing a range of prices, you can see if yours is in or out of the range.

I'd advise that if you can get an amp for a steal and you know what you're in for ahead of time (ie a 65 Bandmaster for $275 that has no pots, a jammed in ginormous non-standard transformer) then great. If you're looking to buy a mint '59 bassman sight unseen and without playing it or testing it and are willing to fork over several thousand dollars, bad, bad idea.

TIP: if you do buy something off eBay and can't pick it up locally, insist that the seller put the amp, head, speakers in double heavy duty garbage bags BEFORE packing it up in a box with foam peanuts. I received my first SF Princeton amp unwrapped, stuffed with peanuts and it took a full day of disassembling it to get the craptastic things out. You should do the same if you do decide to sell it and can't do local pickup. Of course, remove the tubes before shipping and pack separately so that the recipient isn't picking shards of glass out (or trying to pry half a tube out of a socket.

Did you end up selling the amp, and with such a great amp, why not hold on to it? If you bought it off a family member for $30, I'm hoping you're going to share in your proceeds...

I thought the Super Reverb didn't get SF treatment until 1968. So how is yours a 1966 SF?

And you got it for $30?! Good lord...

The first silverface Fender amps were '68 models. Some may have been built late '67 but would not be a '66. I agree with all who mentioned Vintage Guitar magazine, give yourself a Christmas present and subscribe! I often see used Super Reverbs of the silverface era at our local Guitar Center in the 1200-1500 range. These are for player quality amps and are not in perfect cosmetic condition. Also check out www.gbase.com as many vintage dealers advertise here as well. Good luck.
