Hey everyone I was wanting a new amp. I want a tube amp that is from $500 - $800 and don't know what to buy. I play a lot of john mayer and love his clean tone (I just don't have $6000 for a sig model).
Any advice is appreciated :D Thanks

You like a clean tone, eh?

I would tell you to get a Blues Junior, or a princeton reverb. It is $900, so if you're willing to spend an extra 100, you will get a very versatile amp that isn't too loud :)

Are you looking for a vintage amp? (you posted your question in the vintage forum).

If so, you can get a number of vintage silverface Fenders amps in the price range you've identified. It will come down to what you want - straight amp (Champ) or something with reverb (Princeton, Deluxe, Twin). Do you want something bigger - you can typically get Bassman and Bandmaster heads for the price range your talking. Check Craigslist in your local area. This will allow you to test the amp prior to blindly buying it on ebay.

The Fender Field Guide at www.ampwares.com is a good place to start learning about vintage Fenders. There is a page for each model and a macro at the bottom of each page that tracks recent sales on ebay.

If you are looking for something new, you might repost your question in the Modern Amp section to get more responses and input.

Just stay away from the Hot Rod Series. They are really prone to problems.
You'll have a hard time gigging with a Princeton or a Champ unless you can mic it. I'd start with a Deluxe Reverb Reissue if you like Fender. The Ampeg J20 Rocket is nice too. But it all means nothing.

Try as many amps as you can. Use YOUR guitar. Only your ears will let you know what you need. Get something with a great reliability record and if you need to save more, do it. Please don't be in a hurry and blow your cash. Don't buy by what looks cool either.
Good Luck on your quest.
