Just took delivery of the new Vox AC4, only 4 watts but hell is it a loud 4 !
Great feature is there's like a power attenuator on it and you can take it down from the 4 watts to 1 watt and then a quarter watt, you can drive it harder without killing your ears !
Must be one of the most cosmetically pleasing amps i've seen as well, being finished in a white/cream colour with the traditional Vox front grille pattern and logo.
You can derive pleasure from looking at it before you even plug in.

Congrats pliers, have fun with it.
You mean somebody makes amps besides Fender? :D
Cool to step outside the box isn't it? I also have favorite amps besides Fender. Funny thing is, it's not much more than the new Champs as long as it's not an original.

I tried out the 57 ri champ at my local GC. Sounds great, but the $999 is a no. Not worth it, as my Gibson Gold Tone GA5 sounded the same if not better for $299 I paid. The Gibson Gold Tone GA5 has the same specs as the RI Champ, hand wired point to point and USA made, not sure if the champ is usa made. The GA5 also has mojo transformers.

This little Vox AC4 sounds great, on the quarter watt setting, playing a tele fingerstyle you get a really great distorted/not distorted sound that sounds cool for that Lightnin Hopkins sound that he used, swamp blues paradise, that's what's best about tube amps, hit them harder they distort more, lighten up and you clean up.
I've also started when i'm playing at home playing guitar and amp only, there's something cool about that, no pedals just you your guitar and amp, what do the rest of you think?
I like pedals too but sometimes you can't beat just plugging straight in. :D

That's exactly how 5e3 Tweeds work. Seriously dynamic. I'm glad you found something cool that works for you.

Thanks 63 Pro, yeah tubes are the way to go, i don't think i'll ever buy another solid state amp, i've never heard one that sounded good !
What about that other small Fender Champ, i think it's the 600 or something like that, saw one of them in the local GS but i've never heard anyone say anything about them although someone said they thought that's the one Clapton used for the Layla album, i read he used a battery powered Pignose for that one too though.

I think the 600 would be a little redundant for you. I tried one out and it sounded a little boxy to me. But that's just me. I think it does have an extension jack. It is only a 6" speaker.

LOL I still have an old Pignose I bought around 1972-73. It still works! It's a great little amp. I have an old 70's Silverface Champ that I snagged for 150 bucks. It an incredible little amp. It sounds so much better than any of the current Champs out there and reliability wise it's bullet proof. If you can find one they're well worth the money and are hand wired to boot.

That's interesting 63 about the Pignose i was thinking about getting one of those to, don't they eat batteries though? although the new ones i think come with a power supply thing, how much distortion do you get out of it?
I remember buying a re-issue of Claptons Layla album and in the booklet with it the engineer said he dropped in on Eric and Duane Allman and expected them to be blasting away on big powerful amps and there they were playing away through a Pignose and a Champ or something, great.
Rock doesn't seem the same these days, or maybe i'm getting old.

I'm glad you like the amp Kenneth, i feel if you've got the money and want it then why not?

For my purposes i just felt i couldn't justify the price tag, particularly as when playing at home i don't plug in that often, that's why i bought the Vox AC4 because it was under £200.

But as i said before if you have the cash and are prepared to spend it then i don't see anything wrong in that, we only live once.

The old one's came with a supply too. I never used batteries very often so I really don't remember. They have a larger Pignose that has a rechargeable battery. Zappa used The little Pignose for recording too.

pliers,

How you liking that AC4TV so far? Man, I can't stop playing mine. Just got it a few days ago from GC for $199 out the door. Did a little rough demo of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwtaiO-eETs

I love the amp Blues65, it does everything i want it to do, can't get that super saturated lead tone that metal players would use but then i would just put a distortion pedal in front of it and that's that.

But in saying that i don't really play any of that really heavy Rock stuff anymore anyway, blues guitar and Jazz stuff is where it's at for me just now although a month down the line i might feel different.

That sounds a really good price you got it for at GC, definitely a bargain.

Another thing i like is the look of the amp, i could just sit and look at it for ages it looks so good.

Blues 65 i just watched your You Tube video, very good, great tone, you're a bit like me with all your distortion pedals, i have an EH English Muffin, Boss DS2, EH Big Muff, EH Big Muff 2, Zvex Fuzz Factory, Zvex Box of Rock, i'm always mucking around with distortion pedals, i've also got a EH Holy Grail, Digitech Whammy, Line 6 Delay, Tremonti power wah, EBow, that's a crazy thing!

I think that's it, i mainly just use the Vox amp on it's own just now or with a distortion pedal, but as i said in an earlier post that could change at any time depending on how i feel.

Keep on enjoying the Vox.
