Has anyone ever used a Fender '57 Twin Amp? I have just bought one, and know that it can deliver really creamy tones (like Clapton's tone), but I can only get REALLY clean tones from it. I am mostly playing the amp at quite low volumes, but have also tried cranking the volume to see if this makes a difference... it doesn't appear to...

Does anyone know of anything that I might be doing wrong? Or does it sound like my amp might be broken? I'm using a Fender Custom Shop "Clapton" Signature Strat, in case this helps...

Thanks

Manic, The manual for the 57 Twin RI lists an "Extra Rugged Strap Handle" in the accessories along with the fitted cover. When you purchaed your amp did it come with this part? Can you describe it to me or better yet post an image?
I've got a '56 and I'd like to replace the handle. I've been looking around for some kind of heavy duty handle that's a direct replacement. I'm kinda surpried with all the tweeds out there no one's actually come up with a repro handle that dosen't require new mounting holes.

As far as clean, I play steel so that's what I want. My amp has 50's P12P's in it and it honks. I prefer it with 4x10's, my steel seems to sound better with 10's. You might try removing one of the rectifier tubes.

Thanks so much for your reply! I have copied the settings that the guy is using in that video, but still I am only getting a really clean tone. It literally has none of the grit that he seems to be getting. I'm now thinking the amp might be broken...

With your amp, are you able to get crunchy tones, even at lower volumes? Do you have any videos of your amp in action on youtube? I'm really interested to know how it should be sounding. I can't play it properly when the volume is on 8 as it is way too loud for the house. I actually bought the amp for gigging and didn't expect a great tone at low volumes, but the fact that I can't get the crunchy tone the '57 Twin is famous for, is slightly worrying...

Thanks for all your help!
