HAHA! I made my ex pay for it. She wanted it and I said sure. No argument at all.

I have a dang good woman in my life, therefore I listen to her on the few occasions she asked me to wait regarding musical gear I ake her feelings into consideration and did what she asked. I'm not some type of hen-pecked wuss, I just know that she's a whole lot smarter than me; you gotta listen to the people who have the brains!

Interestingly enough, several times she bought the piece that I had expressed interest in earlier, and gave it to me as a gift...that made the acqusition mean that much more.

She's bought the following items for me:

Danelectro Daddy-O
Furman SPB8 Pedalboard
Boss TU2 Tuner
Rocktron HUSH pedal (later upgraded to the ISP Decimator G-String--with HER money!)
Boss RT20 Rotary Ensemble
Hohner Chromatica
several Lee Oskar and Hohner harmonicas (including the antique Hohner 12-hole Marine Band that belonged to her grandfather; after a great deal of rubbing alcohol to sterilize it, it played great!)
Morley ABY switch box
Mighty Mite P90 pickup for my Telecaster

So if she asks me not to buy something, I take her advice...she doesn't always get it for me, but I always get what I need.

..we also have an understanding that if it's a deal of a lifetime that's "too cheap to ignore" (like the $20 vintage MXR Phase 90, and the $99 Danelectro DC3 Pro) that I should go ahead and get it, because she just LOVES a bargain.

See your approach to getting that tweed blues jr was all wrong. You need to romance the wife first, you know candle light dinner, flowers, candies, wine and soft music. Then afterwards, a little foot massage and so on. While she is mesmerized and shocked by all this, then bring up the amp...she will never know she said yes to it the following morning, but make sure you wake up before she does so that you can go straight to the guitar shop the moment they open the next morning.

If that fails, there is always plan B.........................hold on I'm still working on it.

It's gotta be a 2 way street. If you're only always fueling your GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) and not treating her, that will be an issue.

I go for a zero sum funding option for my home studio and my band. If I have gear I haven't used for 2 years straight, I sell it and then get to use the proceeds to buy something I want. Works out great. I sold a bunch of older PA gear we no longer use and was able to buy the Bandmaster, get it redone, new Weber speakers, a Newell combo cab, and cash outlay was zero.

May work for you.

I like this "2 years or you're out idea!" Thanks...

2 years is enough that if i haven't used it, i probably won't. Doesn't apply to amps or pedals, but then again I rotate and use them within that period. More like all the EQ, compressors, racks I bought for our PA before buying a used 01v digital mixer.

How much stuff do you have in your closet that you haven't used in 2 years?
