Hi, I have a 61 blonde tolex bandmaster that needs a little cleaning. Anyone have any good tips for cleaning the tolex? Have a couple small stains i'd like to get out. Also any advice on deburring and polishing the corner plates and lean back arms would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Try some commercial metal polish on the corners and arms, and if that doesn't take all the rust off, work your way through progressively finer grades of steel wool. Diluted dishwashing soap and water work well on tolex.

I used "Woolite Spot and Stain" wipes on an old Peavey Classic 20 I had. It had water rings from cans and glasses on it along with a lot of stains. The wipes took it all off!!!!

Window cleaner with a brush scrubs out deep dirt. Whipe off with a towel and it is like new(ish) Just cleaned my old blond cab, worked like magic!!
Do not use cockpit cleaner or any silicone spray!

Urm. No you're F***ed mate. Actually, maybe try household bleach, but was it off really quick, last thing you want is to stain it and make it worse!!

It depends on what kind of paint. If it's common latex household paint, you could try a latex solvent called "Goof Off" which you can find at any hardware store.... it should remove latex paint without harming other surfaces, but you might want to make sure it won't harm the tolex.

JML Doktor Power its a completely organic cleaning method. I completely stripped out my Tremolux of all hardware and used this stuff very sparingly and with very little water. I would not advise this level of cleaning without getting back to the bare box.
A wipe with fresh water and dried down with a Tea towel. Once completely dry I sprayed the unit with cheap furniture polish and wiped over just to condition the surface.
Being very slightly abrasive, the Doctor Power knocked off any paint and rust deposits on the tolex. A toothbrush can be used to get the finger debris and grot off the control knobs but take care not to rub off the digits.
All the grain is now the same colour as the raised texture and the unit is back to the original colour.
The beauty is that you can control the amount of moisture on the surface of the vinyl, as its water that will get into the joins and lift the tolex. For any edges that come away, a hot melt gluegun does the trick as the hot glue makes the Tolex soft and flexible to pull back in place. I will post some pics.
For the metalwork Brasso wadding does the trick, the nickel plate will usually have worn through and be pitted.

Blonde tolex does not clean up very well. Black tolex is easy to clean.

Go to an auto parts store and buy some whitewall cleaner. Westley's Bleche-Wite is what you want to find. Tolex was made by Goodyear in the beginning. The whitewall cleaner is meant to clean rubber.

Take the chassis out of the cabinet, remove the handle and corners, and take the front grill off if you can. Tape some plastic over the paper label inside the cabinet with some really good tape.

Spray the Westley's Bleche-Wite on the tolex and leave it alone for a minute or so. The chemical will do the work. A soft brush will help get into the "grain" of the tolex. You do not have to scrub hard. Spray the cleaner off with a hose, but be careful about not soaking the wood in side the cabinet. You especially do not want to damage the paper label inside the cabinet. Take you time! Do the job right. If you want to add a little shine you can lightly spray a tire shine product on the tolex while it still has some water on it and wipe it off along with the excess water. The cabinet should only be wet for about a minute or two. The goal is to get the dirt to lift out of the tolex chemically and then rinse and dry the tolex immediately.
