Found a '74 twin reverb silverface at the pawn for $500 in great condition. Is this a good price? Where do i look for serial numbers so i can date it? I have never owned a Twin,so any info would be appreciated. One more question. We all know these amps are awesome for clean sounds, but how do they respond to overdrive? Not my tubescreamer, but a rock/hard rock drive from a qulality pedal (not metal)

Hey casey, I just did a quick ebay search and the only 2 74's were going for 999 & 1050, so I'd say if the condition is good 5 bills might be a decent price, don't know about the overdrive though-nick

You'll need pedals for overdrive. My 76 will make your ears bleed before it breaks up. 500 is a decent price. SF Twins aren't really collectible. They are great sounding and reliable amps. It may need a cap job if it hasn't had one already.

Thanks "63supro" i have seen you throw out alot of info on Twins, so i appreciate the wisdom. I am aware of the non collectability of SF Twins, but that was never my intention anyways. I was just trying to recapture some of the tone i used to get with my old SF princeton that was stolen from me back in my early years. I have heard about the massive Twin volume,so i was planning on using my Tube screamer or Ibanez super tube to get the drive. Will the Twin tame down on a lower volume, or is it balls to the walls at 1 or 2? I can't afford to snag a princeton on Ebay for what they want these days!

Glad I could help. It'll tame no problem and sound great too. It will push great with a Tube Screamer at lower volumes. The SF Twins are a great bargain. I've always loved mine.
