well, heres some advice for good fender amps. any thing from the late 70's like 1978 and lower.

1 59 bassman
2 57 tweed deluxe, the trusty 5e3 circuit and the normal bright inputs
3 65 fender princeton reverb
4 65 deluxe reverb
5 super reverb amp

i have an original 65 princeton reverb, sounds godly, and i cloned the 57 deluxe for a school project and it to is amazing

Don't forget about the indefatigable 1950s Tweed Champ. One of the best sounding amps around, although you'll pay out the ear for one -- if you can find one, that is.

Invest in how - to keep in the attic? For playing at home/studio? For playing out live? different answers for each, although a lot of the ones people have mentioned would be very desirable.

Buy what you like the sound of. I'm sure blonde Dual Showmans are appreciating greatly in price, but not an amp a lot of us can play at its full volume potential.

Good luck!

Hi there Overstood, worked for a collector of Blackface and Drip-edge Silverface Fender amps for years. My job was verification, restoration, and repair of everything associated with the chassis.( not dating the pots & transformers). Finding straight clean examples of each model and a good storage enviornment can be a daunting task. Collecting for the purpose of investment can entail holding the equipment for maybe 10-15yrs. Of course, you get to play the amps whenever you want. ART

Point VERY well made. Investing in "collectables" is risky at best. And the length of time you hold the item is critical..... the gamble is whether the item will increase in value. Its really just dumb luck......

I bought a 72 Thinline Telecaster in 1983 for $400 - to play not collect. I still have it and only recently did the value jump into the $3 to 4 K range. Its dumb luck I bought the thing, kept it for 25 years, and took good care of it.

But what would that $400 be today if I have invested in Apple or Sony?

Buy things you like and enjoy.... if they increase in value, thats just a perk. Otherwise, you could be throwing a lot of money down a hole.

Otherwise... invest in your 401K or start an IRA. :D
