Good morning.
I have been trying to get some information on an amp.
(Silver Face) Fender Twin.
It belongs to my father-in-law.
The story goes like this.
In 1972, he was playing a gig, the amp he had flamed out.
He called the music store, they inturn brought him this Fender Twin.
As I said, It`s a (Silver Face) now the wierd part is the it is also (300WATT)
The information on the back panel goes as follows.
300Watt, 117Volt, 60Hz, Total Load 4Ohms, 100Watts R.M.S.
Stamped into the back plate is (G-TADY), and "A 46957"!
It has Two Fender 12`` Speakers. No information on the "Tube diagram", just the 6L6GC (count of 4) and the 12AX47 ( count of 6)
We finally pulled it out of the closet amd "IT`S A MONSTER"!!!
I have never heard anything like it.
So any information on this Amp, or where I could find out more information would be greatly appreaciated.
Best Regards
Michael

It's 100 watts. 100 watts RMS is the power rating. The 300 watts is draw.
Fender never to my knowledge made a 300 watt Twin. I have a 76 that's 100 watts.

Thanks.
but it is not draw.
It just came out of the shop, and it is a 300watt Twin.
From 1963~1967 The Twin was 85Watts.
In 1968 they upped it to 100watts.
From 1977~1982 they made a 135Watt Twin.
It might be a custom Job by Fender. It is used for a Pedal Steel guitar.
And Fender`s "Steel King" amp is a 225watt.
But Fender was not well known for keeping good records From the time Leo left, and CBS took over.

The Steel King is a 200 watt solid state amp. 100 watts RMS (root means square) IS the power rating. 300 Watt, 117Volt, 60Hz, is not the volume of the amp, it's the DRAW. Four 6l6 power tubes cannot make that much power. They rate at about 30 watts each. Even the Super Twin was only 180 watts.

You need to get the codes from the power, output transformers and speakers. They will give you a close approximation of the date of manufacture. Twins didn't go to 100 watts until around 73 and had a master volume control. Around 76, they had a push-pull master volume control. That's the one I own. Does your have a master volume?

Yes, it does have a master Vol.
As for the other information, It would seem that it is different depending on the source, I used the Fender web sight And it goes from1951~1969, then picks back up From 1990~2000. Nothing on date codes in the 1970`s~1980`s
the rest came from Fender-Amp.com, and vintage Fender.com
I will have to go back over and have another good look at the speakers.
thanks again.

It should be somewhere around a 1973-75 as long as it's not the push pull version master volume. My Twin has been the most reliable amp in my stable.

I1ll bet, You can really hear the difference between that old one, and my brand new Pro-Tube Twin. The old one has Fender Speakers, The brand new one has jensons. The old one just sounds sweeter, brighter, more lowend tone especially when you get the mix right where you want it.

They were raelly clean. The master volume control is awful. The one I have with the boost is worse. I just don't use ithe MV or boost. It's a great amp.

This old one, the reverb is thick like I like it, the tremelo has a massive attack, sometimes to much. Takes a bit to get it dialed in just right.
The new one is better at "Hum" canceling, but the "hum" is part of the ride.
No Snap, crackle, Pop from the new one either. But the Old one will put the new one to shame just by pure volume. It drowned out Marshall Half stacks. Like I said before, It`s a Monster.

You should check and see if it has had a cap job lately. That could be part of the hum. It cured mine.

It just came out of the shop.
Had a capaciter, and two bad 12ax tubes. I play a lot of single coil guitars, stock Fenders, P-90 rigs, so it is part of the teritory.

Hi.
My info tells me that you have a 1972 model (ser#A46957)
The 300 watts you mention on the back plate usualy means the input power to the whole amp ie 300 watts at the full output power of 100watts.
You said that your fatherin law received it in 1972 so the date could make sense. Try and post the transformer codes this will give some dating info although often we have to also know the decade or ten year span that the component was produced. In this case hopefully the 70's.
Is there any info on the tube chart other than the tube type and layout?
Regards
