Hi Everyone,

Can anyone tell me the basic differences between these two circuits in terms of their overall tone, clean sound and ease of break-up? Any advantages of one over the other? Thanks!

Hi,
I have seen ref to the AB763 circuit but can find nothing on a AB765. Which amp are we talking about here, model # year etc?
Regards.

Hi!

Talking about the late 60's (66,67,etc) Fender Bandmasters. They changed circuits during this period and I wanted to know if one circuit was superior/inferior to the other in terms of clean/ease of break-up etc. I'm very seriously considering picking one up. Thanks for responding! :D

In Bandmasters I've heard of:
5C7, 5D7 (wide panel)
5E7 (tweed 3x10)
6G7, 6G7a (brown, blonde)
AA and AB763 (classic Blackface)
the dreaded AC568 (silverface)
AA768, AB768, AA568, AA1069, or TFL5005 (Silverface Reverb model)

but never AB765.

If it's available cheap (<$400) then it may be worth getting; depending on your taste you could mod it back to AB763 territory.

If it's an AC568 (68 or later) I'd not get it. The AB763 is the one you want, preferably with "Fender Electric Instrument Co." on the front, which indicates pre-CBS (as well as label, dating and circuitry). But the tone will tell what you like, but no sense paying large sums confusing it with its tweed, blond or blackface brethren.
