On the answer below, you said that adding a 3 prong adapter to the 2 prong original gray cord (1957 Champ) would some what solve the grounding issue. If so what size wire should be used? I really want to keep everything original.

Did Fender use a green jewel light on late 50's tweeds?
My 57 champ is green and not red.

Adding a three prong adapter will obviously NOT change the internal wiring of the amp so it will still not be grounded.

DO NOT use an amp with an original two-prong plug. Have a competent tech modernize it with a real grounded cord.

There's only one right way to do the ground mod and that requires bypassing the polarity switch, installing a three conductor power cord, connecting directly to the fuse before the switch and hardwiring the neutral. If you don't know how to do this, take it to a good shop and have them do it- paying is better than dying.

I`m having the same problem. I get a current through my on and off toggle switch and was wondering how to solve the problem. I called an authroized Fender repairman and he wants $85 an hour to work on it. My doctor don`t make that much. My amp is from 1963, a Princeton and I would like to use it with my new American Standard Strat but I need to get this resolved first. Any ideas ?

Tinker Tech...thanks for the warning, I didn t realize the tube amps were that dangerous to work on yourself.

I had my amp changed from a 2 to a 3 prong plug because I was getting a little shock through the toggle switch, but prior to the change the amp wasn`t turned on for years. After the plug was changed it won`t turn on. The fuse and the on and off light are both good. Could this be a tube problem or does it sound like it`s a bigger problem than that ? Any help would be greatly appreciated .

Have it checked out for filter caps.

Also, when the amp tech did the conversion, did he also get rid of the "death cap?"
