I just recently found a great deal on an old Sunn 4X12 cab that I'm driving with an original Rivera Knucklehead. I just can't say enough about the Rivera, but I have also found the Sunn to be a nice match. I've tried Marshall, Fender and Mesa cabs with this setup, but the Sunn just seems to have the nicest balance of low end and clarity (it helps that the Knuckle Head has both Focus and Presence controls). Any thoughts? Fellow Sunn players out there?

Thanks for the info, I really don't know too much about Sunn amps other than knowing a few artists who used them. The 4X12 that I have is one of the taller ones. I was looking into the Marshall reissues that had similar dimensions, but then I found this Sunn on craigsllist and I had to check it out. I wound up paying $200 for the cabinet, an old Fender M80 solid state head (that I probably will never use), and a boom mike stand. The dude I bought it from said he gave up playing a while ago and that was the last of the gear that he had. The Fender really doesn't have a bad clean sound (not quite a jazz chorus, but it does have a built in chorus and a nice, "Fender" sounding reverb) but, like I said I don't think it will be getting much use. So as of right now I'm just running a Fender American Series Hardtail Double Fat Strat (all stock) through a Korg DT-10 pedal tuner (nice big simple display, not too great for bass, it you like to drop below 'D'), a modded 'Original Crybaby' (Fasel inductor and true bypass switch turns a $30 used wah into a great piece of gear) and the Rivera Knucklehead through a Sunn 4X12. I'm getting ready to dust off the Blackface Bassmans for a recording session, but that Rivera sounds great.

Sounds like a formula to be reckoned with. I was probably going to plug into my GT-500. Love those Fulltone pedals!

The vintage SUNN closed back cabs had a nice punchy sound. I believe that most of them had 4 ohm speakers.
