Hey everyone!
Yesterday I got my 1st true Fender vintage amp- a 64 Bassman (AA864) with the original cab. Sweet, right? Then I pull off the preamp sleeves and find 2 original Telefunkens, an Amperax Bugle Boy, and an old school RCA. Wow! I already won the lottery when I bought the amp, so the tubes are a SWEET bonus!
Here's my question- I pulled the back off the cab, and found 2 different speakers. The guy told me that one had been replaced a long time ago, so no big surprise. I would like to know what the speakers are. There aren't any markings on either, other than a date code on one of the two- X12T6XK590. What can anyone tell me about these?

I just opened my '65 Fender Bassman cab, and it has two of the X12T6XK59O speakers, identical to the one in your photo. So I guess these are the original speakers. But who made them? Did you ever get an answer?

No. I found the 6-digit date code. They are Oxford speakers made in late 1964. CR

Dumped the Oxfords in my 65. Weber's 12F150's, lightly doped, are a vast improvement to my ears. Just my 2 cents. Enjoy that baby.... 8) Mike

I kinda like the old speakers in vintage amps unless they're busted. IMO, when you change the speaker, you change the sound of the amp. It tends to take away from the "vintage sound", which is why I would invest in one in the first place.
