hey out there i've got a good question. in 2008 i got from Ebay a 73 Deluxe Reverb. no big deal ,right? all stock , i did some cleaning up of it and a little work, new eminence speaker and now it sounds fantastic. the only thing different about it is the fact that it has a factory 6L6 power tube set up. not a mod. because the tube chart sticker on the side directly calls for this set up. 5U4GB,6L6,6L6 and so on. i have been all over the net about this and cant get any satisfaction. does anyone know about this/these deluxe's comming out of the factory like this???
thanks, erich.

83 VRI stratocaster
04 custom shop 60 closet classic
02 VRI jazzmaster
80 les paul custom silverburst
parts guitar tele body and neck (genuine fender parts w/custom shop Nocaster pups)
73 vibrolux reverb
79 twin reverb
73 deluxe reverb

It was my main stage amp for years. I recently replaced the tubes with RCA 6V6, Mullard 12AX7s and Telefunken 12AT7s and put an AlNiCo speaker in it and it is a completely different beast. Much less tubby in the low end, and more chime in the highs.

Aside from the reverb, the character of the DR comes from the 6v6 tubes and the tube rectifier. It has a very loose spongy sound. There are a few boutique companies that make class A/B amps based on the 6v6, and they are pricey.
