How much would it cost me to get a good working order 60's blackface Bassman head?

Where, preferably in UK or Ireland, could I get one?

If I get one and work needs done to it, what is the most likely problems for it to have?

At what volume do they begin to break up if goin through a Marshall or Mesa 4x12?

Am I better off buying a new Supersonic?

Thanks in advance.

Its sad to see you hanging on for a reply from Ireland so I will jump in.

You need to go to wherever vintage amps are sold in your country because you need an old Bassman that is set up to run on 220v/50cycles current and those sent to Europe were modified by Fender.

I can tell you that currently in the USA, Black face bassman heads are running $550 to $750 depending on condition and location.

The most common need for an amp that old is to have its filter capacitors replaced or a "cap job" as it is referred to here in the USA. There can be many other problems with an amp this old, but these amps are easy to fix and bring back to life. Everything can be replaced.

I am sure that you may be able to score a deal on an amp that has been modified or defaced in some way. If you are just after the tone of an old tube amp, that 's the way to get in on the cheap.

Good luck
