My 68/69 Silver Face Vibro Champ has no ground on the A.C. cord. I don't know if that's the original design or not but I was told this amp has never been in the shop and never modified.
It also has 1 Telefunken 12AX7 and 2 RCA 6V6 's. The tremolo is a 12AT7. I forgot the brand but I'll look again when I get home. I got this amp from the original owner who says he bought it new at the "Fender Music Store" in California. (don't if that exists/ed) He only played it a few times and put it on the top shelf in his closet for over 30 years. I begged for a year until he finally gave it to me. Of course I had done $7000 of restoration to his 63 Impala which he also purchased new from the Chevy factory in '62. Anyhow, this amp sounds fantastic and even though I'd like to keep it original it's become non-playable because of noise and shock problem. One day I'd like to bi-amp it next to my SCXD.
Any opinions on what I should do with this little guy?

They did not have 3 prong plugs back then. I would suggest taking it to a good tech and have it converted to a 3 prong cord, and save the old cord, I would also get it re-capped. Save the old parts if you want to. Very cool amps. I have a 74 Champ that I love. It's a crank and go tone machine, and great to record with.

I agree. It needs acap job. You will be amazed at how good it sounds once it is fixed.

What is "caps"? Short for "capacitors"? I've heard something about the old ones were made differently and begin to leak or something like that. Am I on the right track?
Thanks.
