Hey folks, newbie(to this site anyway) here and of course I'm looking for a little help.

I'm about to start working on a Fender 30 and I wanted to bounce something off of you Fender techies.

The problem is that the amp will switch channels on it's own regardless of the position of the footswitch or the position of the channel switch on the faceplate. Now I've narrowed the problem down to a couple possibilities. Either the microswitch chip(syl-ecg-40938 probably unavailable?) has gone amuck, there's a bad solderweld somewhere, there's dirt in the chip, or maybe.... just maybe there's an intermittent LED causing the problem.

I mention this last possibility because of how the channel half of the footswitch is wired. It has only one... yes one conductor involved with the switch(switch is grounded to footswitch housing which grounds back to the amp via the reverb footswitch circuit). I believe that the current needed to power the indicator LED is sensed by the microchip in the amp and the microswitch knows what position to be in based on the current that's sensed.

Or I could say it like this: When the channel footswitch is on, it powers the LED. The electrical current is then sensed at the microswitch and it triggers the microswitch to do it's thing.

Does antone know if this is indeed how the microswitch works?

Anybody ever had this same trouble with a Fender 30?

And if the microswitch is in fact bad and there are no replacements, does anyone know how to bypass it?

Thanks for reading this post

After 11 years I’ll tell you I have a problem with my channel switching on my 30. I have it today and I had it in 1984 when my amp was 4 years old.

I doubt anyone will ever see this but I’d like to fix mine. It seems to switch ok but I lose 75% of the gain on the normal channel. Plugging directly in works perfectly.

Are you sure its not the Footswitch itself? I had to replace one of the switches in my '84 Concert and it was doing this very thing. Switch would click, Led would go on and off, but switched on its own.

Worth a mention.
