What brand of tubes were installed originally in the 1965-67 Pro Reverbs? I have a 1966 Pro Reverb and I'm trying to find out if they were RCA or GE; especially the 6L6GC. I'm trying to get the amp sounding as close as possible to the way it was originally when it was new. It's sounds awesome at the moment and it has a combinattion of JJ, Mullard, Sovtek, and EH tubes. Thanks

Thanks. I've been researching new tubes that supposedly are constructed and sound close to the RCA Black Plate 6L6GC of the '60s. One I've been thinking of trying is the TAD 6L6WGC-STR. Does anyone have any opinion on this tube. TAD also is producing a new 7025 S Mullard Style.

I have a matched pair of Tung Sol 6L6GC's that are re-issues and sound great in a 4-10 Musicman amp... I would imagine that they would sound great in the Pro Reverb as well... I'll have to try the TAD's, I too was wondering how they were... mojotone.com had the TAD tubes at a great price earlier this month.

Thanks again... I appreciate your opinion on the matter. I usually buy my tubes from The Tubestore or TubeDepot and always got great customer service. I'll check out mojotone.com.

The 65-67's had a variety. It is generally conceded that the tube of choice was RCA, but there were a range of tubes used by Fender from GE, to Sylvannia, and I've seen a 1966 Pro Reverb with original Westinghouse 12AX7's . When they ran out of whatever the preference was during production, someone made a tube run and got whatever was out there. A tech buddy of mine who's an amp repair specialist once ordered RCA's back in the 60's, and inside the product sleeves were GE's although the outside of the packaging was RCA! Stuff like that happened all the time.

Cheers, Pete
