It's time for me to get a tube amp and I think I want either a vintage Twin Reverb or Deluxe Reverb, silver face or black face. Anything I need to know before I make the jump? Known problems or issues I should look out for?

Tom, the twin is clean period. To get it to breakup you have to go to ear-splitting volume or use a pedal in front of it. Weighs about 85 lbs. Not for those with tender backs. The Deluxe is more managable and will still do small gigs power wise. It will breakup much earlier too. I've got a blackface(1965) bassman that does it all. 50 watts that will cut above the mix but easy to transport with the head and cabinet. You'll pay a premium for any blackface over a silverface, but most silverface Fenders are great amps. Just my 2 cents. Mike

You could probably Blackface a Silverface anyway. Not all Blackfaces are pre CBS. Be careful on paying a premium.

Thanks. What if I used an attenuator with it?

What would you consider to be a premium? I'm trying to keep the total $$$ under $600.

Tom if you want a twin and 600.00 is the budget you'll have to go silverface. You can attentuate but I'd just throw a tube screamer in the mix as I often do. An attentuator will effect the tone.Keep an eye on craigslist.com and you may get lucky. You may also should you go with a Deluxe Reverb. See you over at Blues Republic brother. Mike

Unless you play big venues, a Deluxe Reverb is a better choice. It breaks up nicely at lower levels. You can always mic it too. I tried an attenuator on my Twin and couldn't get a decent tone out of the amp. Twins are made to be clean and stay clean.

If I wanted to "expand" the Deluxe Reverb, what speaker cab would I want to use?
