Hi everybody,
I've got a '65 Deluxe Reverb RI and I'm thinking about an additional cab (preferably 2x12) for it. But as the external speaker jack is wired in parallel with the internal speaker, I don't see how I could ever get an 8 ohms load using both the external cab and the internal speaker. I know that the amp won't explode immediately if it has to drive 4 ohms, but in the long run? What would you suggest? An extra 16 ohms cab probably doesn't solve the problem either -- the internal 8 ohms speaker should be a lot louder than the cab then... Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks, Hans

The Weber Z-Matcher will match ohms. It's a great tool.

THANKS!!!

Didn't even know that something like that exists. Not too expensive either. I could get a 2x12 16 ohms Marshall cab for cheap... starts me thinking about using two of these...

hey,
your 65 DRRI has a good transformer and was made to handle the load of internal 8 ohm and an external 8 ohm box together in parallel. it will run just fine at 4 ohms combined, or at 16. it's not a good idea to mismatch loads tho, i wouldn't run a 16 box with the 8 internal for example.
amp doctor cesar diaz and many others have said fender amps are very tolerant of different impedances for speakers and typically can go 100% either way without any damage.

i had a 65 DRRI for a while and running an external box is way sweet, it can give you a heap more stage coverage and more depth in the bottom end if it's a closed cab. i like the single 12 open back in those amps, but they're very narrowly directional on stage. any fender combo will love you for running a closed cab in parallel with the open back internal speaker.
