I had a sweetlittle Fender Tremolux Amp with 2 tens back in the 60's.
I sure would like to play through one again. Does any body out their have an old Tremolux? when did they stop making them? Thanks, Blue Tele

I played in a band in the 1960's, and we featured in a club at Huntington Pier. Another band on our bill called the "Soul Survivors" played through these amps, and they were really nice. We were all really envious of this band's equipment, (they played Mosrites, as well) but we were happy with our instruments. I had a blue metallic sunburst P-Bass.

I wonder if anyone is considering a reissue of these little gems.

Of course, that would make it awfully easy for a lot of folks to get those tones.

There's another thing I'd like to see done.

I'd like to see an open back extension cabinet for the amp.

I've had some ideas, but little funding. If that changes, I'll cobble something together on my own (maybe with EVM or Tone Tubby speakers).

I have a '65 Blackface Treemolux in fine working condition I would be willing to part with. Any interest here? Lew

II have a '62 Tremolux brownface chasis that I built into a combo cab configuration so it's not the original cab per se. Sounds sweet though through a single 12" Fender - Jensen in the cab.

The cab is blonde tolex with wheat grill. Built it myself looks very Fender-like and authenticly vintage. Of course the amp itself is the real deal.

I have a mid 60's Tremolux cab with 2-10s. I actually played bass through this cabinet and it sounded fine!

I don't have a Tremolux amp though. I am sure that they are sweet.

The Tremolux is a sweet sounding amp. VERY clean sounding and has a great glassy tone when I play my Strat Plus through it with the TBX control.

BTW, had to take the Tremolux in and have the power transformer replaced this week. It just died on me during a rehearsal, but that's ok. I've been using the thing for reheasing and a few gigs for the past 6+ years and never had a problem with it. I also, earlier on, had the filter Caps replaced. They were leaking. And, replaced one of the input jacks and resistors. I run the newer Fender AU5 rectifier tube in it, with 2 6L6's.

Other than that, no problems. I'll post a photo of it when I get the amp back and into the cab. It's a cool looking amp. Fender never made one of these, but it looks a lot like a Vibro King, just abit smaller.

That sounds like a cool amp. Sorry to hear about the transformer going dead.
That is why they say you need to do a cap job on old amps before using them regularly.

I would love to see a picture of your amp.

Here's some photos of a 1962 Tremolux combo that I built. Everything is Fender issue (including the speaker) except the cab. Just rewired and replaced the transformer. Works great now.

I play through a 64 Tremo w/210 cab all original. Sweetest amp I own. I don't mind not having reverb 'cause I bridge the channels. They are still very reasonable as far as price goes compared to other amps of this era. I would check ebay, there is always one on there.

I traded a Gibson Sonex for a Frankenstein Tremolux combo, very thin, so thin it wanted to fall over, with two Eminence legend 10s in it. It sounded horrible with that open back cabinet, and the amp was poorly mounted, so it stuck out of the cabinet a little, too.

So I started a project. I took the amp out of the cabinet, and saw that it had 1 Fender and 1 Sovtek 6L6. I had saved a pair of 1964 RCA black plate 6L6s from an old Gibson amp I had, and I saw a Fender head cabinet online, so I picked that up.

The coolest thing about this Trem head, was that the famous Garnet Gillies (Garnet tube amplifiers) modded this head with a huge Hammond power transformer (I noticed someone on this thread saying that their power transformer bit it). He changed the tube layout as well, at least the trem part. So this amp is powerful, dead quiet until you hit the strings, and the trem sounds heavenly.

I then went hunting for a speaker cab. I settled with an Avatar 212, with Celestion vintage 30s. Closed back, and what a rich sound. A couple of Fender logos later, and I've got myself a killer rig, which sounds amazing. If I ever come across a blond 210, or the factory blond head cabinet, I'll jump at it. But for now, this amp is near perfect. I can see why people would want to chase one down. I'll never let mine go.

And now, I just acquired a 1998 USA Deluxe Strat, so I'm ready to go.
