I got a Silver face w/aluminum fram Band Master head with 4 Power tubes at guitar center for $300 Friday. It has a Tube Chart with Model/circiut number ab763 but the tube chart show only two power tubes. Do you think it has been hot rod or a custom Dual Band Master form fender ? The only amp that had 4 power tubes with the same set up as the Band Master was the Dual Showman with the ab763 circiutry. I found schematic at www.freeinfosociety.com for the Showman.

It's not a Bandmaster. Probably a Dual Showman with Bandmaster faceplate. sounds like still a great deal at $300.

I have check the transformer numbers and looked inside . It's a hot rod Bandmaster . I found out they used the same chasie's for the Showman ,Dual Showman and Bandmaster.

Tele, so which transformers are in your amp? My '67 was punched and drilled for 4 power tubes(which made it easy to add a tube rectifier). Don't know why the early '68 Band Masters would not be the same. All the BF Band Masters I've seen on the bench had the 4 hole chassis. In fact, one amp a guy brought in had two sockets and tubes, with nothing attached(bogus). ART

I own an early '68 Bandmaster that I purchased, new, in February of that year. Looking at the original post made me curious so I checked the head. While there are only two power tubes in there, the chassis does, indeed, have an additional two holes punched in it, adjacent to the existing power tubes, with covers screwed on them. So it's very possible that the head is an original Bandmaster that's been worked.

Makes me wonder how many chassis designs they had that are similar in dimensions.

Fender may have punched all similar chassis the same whether it was a Bandmaster, Showman - easier to have one punch setup than several.

Yeah Neo, I was going to suggest that this was the same chassis as the "short head" Showman, but couldn't verify it. There was an amp that I had to remove the faceplate or the brass grounding plate from, and there was a hole punched for another pot. That might account for the middle control on the Showman. But it was some years ago and I can't say for sure that it was a Band Master. ART

Just looked at mine, and as expected, it has 4 tube holes punched out, but the two are covered. Here's an image for others to see.

So, I think Fender had one die press for the Bandmaster, Showman, Dual Showman amps, since they all shared the same chassis.

I like the idea of using one for a tube rectifier - since my ground switch isn't connected anymore after the removal of the "Death Cap,", might be an interesting mod - switch from tube to solid state rectifier.

Actually Neo, I turned the B Master into more of a Pro. Always liked those 2X6L6 amps, but couldn't afford one of the brown or blonde amps so.....I made a few adjustments to what I had(don't think Leo would be offended). You know, that Band Master combo is very similar to my Bassman 2X10 combo. If I were more computer savvy, I'd get a pic. ART
