I recently had a recap job done on my 1960 or '61 Fender Twin -- serial number 00037 -- at Tonecraft by John Bessent, the acknowledged expert in Austin on tube-type amps. John got it up and running for me and it sounds great. This was the house amp at the Armadillo World Headquarters in the '70s, owned by the club owner Hank Alrich and played by the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn. I bought it at the auction when the 'Dillo closed in 1980 (I worked there in the early '70s). But now my 13-year-old son, the rock star, is lusting after this, as he's ready for a real amp now. Needless to say, he's not allowed on this 'un, given its value. But what is it really worth? John couldn't venture a guess, but he sez it might be lots. Aside from its "provenance," the value presumably attached for what might have played it, what is a Twin of this vintage worth? Anyone venture a guess? If I had a clue, I'd post a picture...[/img]

I'm sorry for wasting your time with no information about your amp except for to say, WOW!

Love,
Todd

PS My "rockstar" son is 16. I have an early '70's twin. I make him play newer amps, when he wants to get loud, too.

Well, I'm even more impressed. I live in midtown Manhattan, am 49, and must have read your work when you were writing for the Village Voice. Your son sounds like he's worth your attention and sacrifice. That alone is impressive. Sounds like you're a great dad. That's even cooler than your amp. And your amp is VERY cool.

Love,
Todd
