Hey,
Has anyone played one of these re-issue amps Or better yet the real thang?

I have a custom handwired 5E3 that sounds breathtakingly awesome. I'd like to compare it to the 'real thing' if possible. I have mine in an oversized Bubinga/Maple cabinet with 2 10" speakers (-66 CTS and an Eminence Li'l Buddy).

All I do is plug my Strat in and start playing....... No pedals, no reverb, no effects, just beautiful tone that has a way of turning peoples heads. Guys I jam with can't beleive I don't use any pedals and that all the amp has is those 4 inputs, 2 volume and 1 tone knob.

Strangiling my strat...

You really don't need anything with a 5e3. I'm looking to build one. I would like to put it in a head and maybe do a 2x10 or 1x15 closed back cabinet.

I tried a 57 Deluxe and it's nice. There's not much of a difference between the RI and a well built Mission kit. A friend of mine lets me borrow his Mission clone and I actually like it better. I may be wrong, but I believe the reissues still use spade connectors on the switches.

I want to solder every connection. That's why I going to build it myself. I want quality components all way round. Plus the price is a bit steep on the reissue.

Sounds like you've got a really sweet amp. Tweeds really don't need reverb anyway.

Yeah,
Mine is a Li'l Dawg and it is point to point handwired. I had the guy put 2 speaker outs and and a line out on it. I've got some New Old Stock tubes in there that just sound wonderful.

It's gotten to the point where I get dissappointed when I plug into my other amps. I've even played my Bass through it and it sounds killer. Awesome for recording with a mic...

The Li'l Dawg amps are really great sounding amps. How long did you have to wait for it?

Hey,
I only requested the chassis from Jim @ Li'l Dawg. My cousin had a Champ made prior and that thing was off the hook. I had an opportunity to go and meet the guy and play a bunch of stuff he had in progress. Awesome stuff. He had me play through a few and asked me a bunch of questions about my playing style and what I wanted out of the amp. He made some proprietary tweaks to the set up to accomodate what I wanted. Jim knows his stuff and even sent me pix of each stage of the production.
Once he got my $s for parts, I had it in a couple of weeks. If you want the oversized pine tweed cab it will take much longer since he also builds these by hand. He added an exta spkr out, standby (progressive switch) and a line out. Then gave me the option of the New Old Stock or Brand new JJ tubes.

I had a friend of mine who's into woodworking make the cabinet for me. Bubinga sounds a lot different than the tweeded pine cabs they usually put these into.

It will spoil you....
