Hi Gang, I hav ea question about the faceplates. I have a few blackface and brownface amps. Some faceplates have the lettering raised, like a silkscreen others seem pretty flat. Not much definition difference between the painted plate and the lettering. Should they all be raised and the flat ones are repro?

My blackface collection includes a mix of vintage amps fitted with both OEM faceplates and contemporary repros. The originals appear to have slightly raised lettering while the aftermarket parts seem nearly level. The two re-issue blackfaces I have (one DR, one TR) have relatively smooth numerals and lettering.

I've never lost a moment's sleep thinking about it.

I have a repro and OEM plates and one thing not mentioned is color. The OEM 1965 Super Reverb I have seem to have a slight silver to the "Super Reverb Amp" and the repro is much whiter. Could be the 50+ years of aging.

Arjay?
