I was raised in a family that loved fast cars, mom included. Corvettes have been a passion for decades...

Can't go wrong with Tuxedo Black.

Very tasteful!

1969 L88? One of 125? Where do you find 102 octane gas for that beast?

Thanks!

In 1969, 99 4-speed L88s were produced along with 17 turbo-hydramatics. VP Products produces various strengths of leaded fuel so, it’s easy to get.

It's been a long time since I've seen a Chevy Rampside, even in a picture...

Me and Rampy’s go all the way back to high school. When I had a chance to get this one, I grabbed it...

The silver convertible is an L89 and is one of only 16 ever produced in 1967. It is extremely well documented...

[rant on]OK, I'm going to wander way off topic here, but I think the younger members would benefit from some insight. I readily admit it has nothing to do with music, guitars, amps, or even Fender.

Back in the sixties, muscle cars were produced with high compression ratio engines. They required high octane fuel to prevent pinging. The way that was accomplished was with lead additives. But they didn't just require high octane ratings, the lead in the additives also provided lubrication to the valve guides and exhaust valve seats in the engine to prevent premature wear. Piston driven aviation engines have those same requirements. Eventually they won't.

Another thing that piston-driven aviation engines require? Lead additives help prevent vapor lock. If you're flying in a single engine airplane, that's pretty much the last thing you want to happen.
Sorry for dragging this thread way off topic, but I'm glad leaded fuel is still available.

When I was a kid, we had lead based paint, but I didn't care for the taste of it. Now we have lead based solder, but from what I read, 90% of it comes from lead-acid batteries. Don't know if that's true or not, I read it on the internet. To me, moderation is the key to everything.

Electric cars? Great if you're not driving very far once per day. Or the weather is not very cold.

Stick that in your "green new deal pipe" and smoke it.

I didn't mean to detract from Mark1969L88's posts, he has a very fine collection of amps, cars, and even planes. I apologize to him especially.

Sorry, /[rant over]

If it gets me banned, so be it. I'll still be hanging around here as a "guest".

Regards,

The 67 thru mid 69 L88s had 12.5-1 compression which (without the aid of computers) required a minimum of 107 research octane and, as you said, required lubrication (solid lifters) which was provided by the lead...

...which is to say, I’m still looking for that special Vibroverb. :D
Just scored a beautiful masterbuilt 54 Strat. It should be in this coming week.

It's nice to have the wherewithal to fully fund all of one's hobbies and truly enjoy the best of everything.

I've forgotten what bread crusts even *look* like.

Love the period correct furniture, too. Esp those over-stuffed Lazy Boys & plaid upholstered chairs.
Those engines are in super-minty condition. You must have won many ribbons and trophies at Vintage Car shows.

Good work!
