Hi,

The speaker code is:

M12N-1 29614 BHE7744

I am curious as to what these speakers may be in my '66 Pro Reverb. Anyone know? I can't find the info anywhere.

Thanks and regards,

Gene

Those codes aren't ringing any bells -- any chance you can post some pics?

How do I post a pic? There seems to be no uploading/attach a photo code.

How about a shot of the entire speaker?

I wonder if it may be a Solar speaker. 1971 4th week?

Decoding the M12N-1 29614 BHE7744 markings has proved enigmatic. The "M12N-1" likely represents the model designation while the "29" in "29614" may be the manufacturer's industry-assigned code. If the latter were applicable it would indicate a speaker made in the 14th week of 1966, which is consistent with your amp's age. However I've found no reference whatsoever that "29" was ever given to a speaker company. The "BHE7744" marking might be a customer number assigned by the manufacturer.

Visually, the speaker resembles a Jensen C12N but a Jensen would be EIA-coded as "220-XXX".

How do they sound?

The speakers sound really great. But it can be the amp. Very throaty and big tone. The amp hisses so I may take a look into the plate load resistors when I have some time. I found that 296 is the code for Solar at the Weber site. That is why I think it may be a Solar 71, week 4 speaker. Or BHE7744 stands for 1977 week 44? The speakers are not original to the amp so I don't think it would be from 1966.

A very clean specimen, just as nice as my '68 drip-edge silverface!

Kind of leaning on replacing the speaker to a more original vibe. Any recommendation for a Jensen C12N type speaker? Weber? Or Ebay for a true vintage Jensen C12N? hmmm...

If the original speakers sound good I'd leave them in situ and just play the amp as is.

My '68 has its OEM Utah's (Fender P/N 081828) which don't really do the amp justice. But waiting in the wings are a matched pair of Fender-marked Jensen C12NA's from 1967 that I've been hoarding for just such a project.

Yeah, I will get to the plate load resistors first before speakers. I believe the current ones are pretty much like a clone of the Jensen C12Ns. The model name is even M12N. lol.

Very, very nice amp! What's the issue with the plate load resistors? The ones on the phase inverter anodes?

Thanks!
