Thanks....I also love the Brownface sound,I play them more than my Blackface amps these days, they have more midrange which I really like,...nothing at all wrong with the scooped mids of the Black Face AB763 though,it's nice to change around,it keeps me from becoming tired of the sound of any particular amp since I rarely use pedals.

Just bought this Princeton Reverb from 1966/67.

It's more or less original, has the Jensen speaker, a few caps were renewed. I'll get it delivered next week.

Cheers

Hello Arjay

I'll have to see when the amp arrives. What is a "cap can"? I don't know the expression (english isn't my mother tongue).

What's wrong with the filter caps? I suppose they just do their job. I agree they don't look beautiful and surprisingly big, but I don't see brand and specs on the picture. And I have to admit I'm new to vintage amps, but I have a basic knowledge of electronics. Thanks for your insights, it's highly appreciated.

Cheers

David

This is a Princeton Reverb cap can......

And to be brutally blunt, it sounds like you need to do some comprehensive research regarding the entire topic of vintage gear. Neophytes are easily duped and I'd hate to see anyone get burned because they were unfamiliar with the various aspects of an old amp.

I'm GAS'ing for one of those... I remember playing through one in the early 90s and loving that tone! Great reissues that's for sure and will only appreciate in value...

My only remaining vintage Fender, 73 SR, the sweetest tone I can ask for! 8)

With the CTS Alnicos of course

Hello Arjay. Yes, I'm new to vintage Fender amps, as I already admitted.

Your picture shows the other side of the circuit board, if I'm not mistaken. I still haven't understood which problem you see with the filter caps. I would appreciate if you could share your knowledge, or give me a basic hint.

Anyway, I'll have the amp serviced by a Fender tech and my house is secured with FI-fuses. The guy who sells the amp says he's been using it just like this. Can't be all wrong, can it?

Best regards

David

This is the bottom of the cap can area on a factory-original Princeton Reverb chassis......

Contrast this with the horrid mess someone has made of yours. It'll be easy enough to unfuck by someone who knows what they're doing but my next thought would be, what other foolhardy "mods" were done?

HTH

The good news is he's taking it to a Fender amp tech, and any mods done can usually easily be reversed. Fingers crossed for you.

FYI - I only saw the first image of the amp front as the others are blocked at work.
