I never use the switches, I just leave them in the on (up) position, but the amp hasn't been used for years and I think it just needed the De-Oxit.

With JBL D120F's, I'm surprised that you use them at all. Those speakers are already pretty "bright and shiny".

I don't know, it sounds better to me like that. Maybe it's because I have the volume low and have P-90's installed in most of my guitars?
I'll try turning off the bright switch and messing around with the tone controls to see what I come up with.
Thanks for your input.

I normally use a Fender's bright switch only when playing a Les Paul with humbuckers. A P90 *might* need that extra HF kick though I personally haven't found that to be the case. Try some experimenting to determine what sounds best to you.

I sprayed the switches from the front and they're working fine now. The amp hasn't been used for years so maybe the contacts just needed cleaning.

Nothing new, it is well know by any amp tech.

Yeah, the P-90's aren't as bright as other single coils, but you're right, I should experiment more with the sound, although I'm never really satisfied. What I think I might need is a Princeton or Vibrolux to get what I really want. Never had an amp with 10-inch speakers. I've got a Hot Rod Deluxe and a Blues jr, but they also have the 12-inch speakers (and are not vintage amps).

I'm more of a musician than a tech, so I thank you for your help. I should know more.
Maybe one day I will learn the basics (before I'm dead!).

I still think you ought to give the Deluxe Reverb (or DRRI) a try. With the right speaker, either a vintage Jensen C12Q or a JBL D120F, I'm betting you'll find it delivers every sonic variation you might need.

Great! I'm going to try one out! Sounds like what I need.
I see that the reissues have great reviews. I guess you'd recommend the '65 over the '68 ?
Do you know if I can plug the Twin speakers into the Deluxe, either into the main jack or the external speaker jack, and if it makes sense doing so?
If not, maybe I will end up selling my Twin after all (Or maybe put one of its JBL D120F's into the Deluxe?). But I would love to replace my Twin with something lighter.
Thanks for all the information, it's helped me out a lot!

The DR and DRRI are at their happiest with an 8Ω speaker load though a 4Ω load is not likely to cause harm. If you opt for the re-issue model, find a used one built prior to 2006. The newer amps are assembled with RoHS-compliant (no lead) solder which is responsible for the lion's share of problems encountered in most contemporary amps.

OK! One built prior to 2006 (or a vintage one) is what I'll look for!

Be sure to try *before* you buy -- shun the online retailers and test it out in person to be certain it'll do what you need.

Right, I'll look online to find something, but make sure I test it out before buying.
I've never bought one without testing first, but it's tempting because it's so easy to do (and then you're stuck with it!)
Thanks again for the advice.

Most on-line retailers such as Music123, Sweetwater, Guitar Circus, etc) have provisions for return but it's still a PITFA most of the time. Most of my vintage collection was purchased on Ebay but I've been very fortunate that all of the amps lived up to my expectations (IOW, sheer luck).

I was wondering about that. So you purchased without testing first? Maybe something vintage for 2 or 3 thousand dollars would more likely by sold by someone who is reliable and trustworthy.
I've never bought guitars or amps online; I was just looking but I may not find anything within a few hours drive. I found an amp on ebay, over 4,000 miles away, kind of far to drive.
I guess there is a possibility of finding a good used one at online stores that have a return policy.
But I may also have to take a chance with buying one long distance on ebay if I don't want to by a new one.
