I bought the amp new several years ago and it's had a very easy life - no gigging, beers, etc. I went to a friends house to practice some songs and brought it along to loan my girlfriend (who I recently started teaching guitar) so she could play with us.

Basically one day it was fine she ran her Squier bullet mustang into it at pretty low volume for a few hours, then turned off the amp and unplugged the cord and set it aside. A few days later we came back and when she tried to use the Champ there was no sound. The only thing worth mentioning is she also plugged my Microkorg XL into the amp, at the same time, on the last night it worked.

Symptoms: Light turns on, no sound at all.

I tried the speaker with a different amp and it was fine, soI moved on to the amp. Tried new tubes but that didn't help. Then I read about a problematic resistor (R10, 470 Ohm 2 W I think) and mine was looking like it had gotten hot, so I replaced that. The component was in fact bad - I used a multimeter and measured an open connection - but replacing it had no effect. The last thing I did was just use the meter to verify continuity between the legs of R10 and the components on either side of it, which it had, so it looks like the connections to both legs are good.

I'm at a loss now. Does anyone have any ideas? My gf feels terrible and I'd like to fix it ASAP so she can stop worrying and start playing :)

Are there any internal (mounted on the circuit board) fuses?

If so, check them. With a multimeter (do not rely solely on your eyesight).

Yes, both the tubes that had been in there and the new set I bought to see if would fix the problem. Doesn't matter which set is in, they seem to light up but still there's no sound.

Yes, there is a fuse - I was hoping that was the problem! It looked fine but I pulled it and checked it with a multimeter just to make there wasn't some disruption that was too small to see. I read continuity (unfortunately) so I put it back on the board.

I didn't know this existed but now that I look at it I can see this is the source of the schematic I was looking at. The manual is very thin and not much in the way of direct help BUT I've seen reference to different points on the circuit your can measure (voltages I guess) and compare against expected values/ranges. I have a meter and know enough of what I'm doing to be dangerous....I mean, to probe the circuit at the right places but I don't have any comparison. Is there a resource for something like this? Or maybe there are only a few values/parts that are diagnostically helpful and someone with more experience just knows them? :D

If the pilot lamp lights that often indicates a high-voltage issue.

Start at the power supply and check each of the test points shown on the schematic for the correct voltages coming out of the rectifier.

If the resistor R10 went bad, you had a power tube failure. It can short to the filament and cause problems there or it may turn on fully and take down the R11, R12, or R26. These are larger resistors that are in the power supply and failure means no sound.
Speaking of sound, do you hear hiss from the speaker?
