Saw this eBay ad, while looking for vintage JBL speakers. Seems pretty original. No relationship to seller.

Only 84 lbs.

Definitely not an Ultra-Linear model!

Note the factory speaker phasing (white leads to black terminals)

Yeah, seems the speakers are wired out-of-phase with each other. Unless one speaker was reconed out-of-phase? Oh well, easily fixable. Bet that puppy is loud.

Seems like I read elsewhere that JBLs are "negative polarity".(meaning a negative voltage applied to the red terminal produces a forward cone movement) Not sure what happens after a recone. Easy enough to check with a 9V battery.
Hopefully whoever buys it will fix the boo-boo.

Beemer,
On another note, did you check out any of the seller's other stuff? I found these interesting:

Wonder how they sound.

I apologize in advance for the temporary thread derailment.

I found this Twin Reverb ad, in eBay looking for JBL parts. I'm in process of restoring an old pair of home hi-fi L-166 Horizons I found on CL.

Next to L-100, I redid two years ago.

 'bout as much chance of that happening as me buying a custom shop guitar.
Or paying 2 grand for an amp with a cabinet that has "all the resonant qualities and structural integrity of a Rice Krispies box" (your description, but it made me laugh)

But they only sound good with some of those 10K directional speaker cables.

To confess, I have a bunch of old-school Audioquest directional interconnects, I bought in the last century (1990s). Still work fine.

Arguments can be made for directionality in an unbalanced interconnect. Shields only connected on one end for ground loops, etc. Less so for speaker cables, IMO.

I own one of these, bought it used.

Motor turns a 20 lb. flywheel, flywheel turns the 20 lb. platter. Platter has lead in it, so definitely not RoHS.

I also have a pair of these, they sound great, but nowhere near 50K. Less than 2K.

Very nice TT and speakers. Did Joe Tannoy sign those? I restored an old Sony turntable with SME 3009 arm.

Speakers are an ongoing fixing stage... :)
