Hello, new here so, hello:)

Ive got an original 65 princeton reverb, pre CBS. It had a non original speaker in so I bought a vintage JBL d110f from the same era.

The thing is, it doesnt fit, the holes are different. Does anyone know if Princetons that were ordered new with the upgraded JBL speakers had a different baffle to ones that had the standard speakers?

Thanks :D

First off, you don't have a "pre-CBS" anything.

Unless your amp can be documented to have been built BEFORE the 5th of January in 1965 then you have a CBS-era product. No debate, no dispute, historical fact.

As for your speaker problem, the Princeton Reverb was never available with an optional JBL speaker. Fender itself considered this amp to be a "student" model and it was designed and priced accordingly. The standard speaker was an Oxford 10J6 (or very rarely, a Jensen C10R). These speakers featured an eight-hole rim, while JBL's D110F required only four. Thus, it should fit a standard factory baffle board without issue. There may be a clearance problem between the speaker magnet and the output tranny but the holes in the rim should align with the existing structure. The JBL's cast-aluminum frame is significantly thicker than the stamped-steel basket found on the Oxford or Jensen -- if the mounting studs are too short then they'll need to be replaced.

I found a nice cup of Java and maybe a donut before I look at internet gear sites helps my mood.
