A while ago I picked up a Guild Reverb Converter. It's a 1X10" tube combo with a foot-switchable spring reverb and a killer tremolo. The only control for the trem (other than the on/off) is "speed" which sort of effects depth as well..... Anyway, my reverse 60's strat gives some pretty glassy cleans on the lower volume end and turns nice and bluesy with the volume on 4-6. Any tele I try seems to pic itself with that nice country, bluesy tone. If I grab my Big Apple Strat and plug into an original DOD overdrive (Vol. and Drive on 10) the thing screams! I did swap out the original speaker with an Eminence I had laying around, just to preserve the original, but the stock sounded great and I still toss it in once in a while to work it out. These little tube combos seem to take to just about any pedal I throw at them. Did I mention they don't weigh a ton or take up loads of space? Comes in handy when you're a pack rat like I am.

I failed to mention that the way the reverb works on this amp is a little unusual; By itself the single 10" speaker belts out a nice sweet tone for practicing, but without reverb. It does, however, have tremolo. The reverb function is accessed with the use of another non-reverb amp. First plug your guitar into the non-reverb amp. Next, connect the alligator clips that are hard wired to the reverb converter to the speaker lugs of the main amp. Turn on both amps and play. The Reverb Converter produces the wet signal only with the main amp providing the strong dry signal. The alligator clips that attach to the speakers of the main amp input the signal from the main amp into the reverb tank of the converter. From there, the tubes recover the signal to drive the Reverb Converter's speaker. you can split your guitar's signal and go into the main amp and the input of the Reverb Converter. This will give you: 1. the dry sound from the main amp, 2. the reverb sound from the converter, 3. the dry tone from the converter, and 4. tremolo is available at the flip of switch.

I tend to use mine with a Pro Jr. Woody like the one in my Avatar photo. That's a lot of tube tone.

I'm a 15 to 20 watt guy anymore.
Ears are now too shot out to crank a 50 or better and make it sing (worked my way backwards from a hi-power twin).

If I am feeling bluesy, I really like my old ('67) Silverface Princeton reverb.
If I am feeling rockier, I have an old Traynor YB2-A Bassmate (the 2-EL84 version) that really opens up into a Marshall-style bloom pretty well.

Both are bought and built on the cheap, as I do my own soldering (and I have a budget). Barely-Broken is a bonus

Just picked up a plaid old Pro Jr. so I can leave the Woody at home now. It still gets played plenty... don't worry.

My two faves are my 64 Deluxe Reverb and Twin from the same year.

For bass:
I play through my '66 Showman amp and its single 15 bottom, paired with my 2x10 Tremolux cabinet.

For guitar:
1977 Deluxe Reverb amp with a JBL 12

Just got a 77-78 Fender Pro Reverb amp. The jury is still out on this one but it sounds very promising. :D

Anyone who doesn't start with a blackface Super Reverb or Twin Reverb is just wrong! :) Then, depending on your style, you can kick in a Showman Reverb and/or Blues Deville. The rest are very good with a few dogs.

I'd really like to own and play a '64 Fender Deluxe Reverb.. Unfortunately I only own a '63 Brownface Bassman and a '65 Blackface Bandmaster.. They sound really nice, but I think I'd prefer a smaller amp in the future.

I was GIVEN a little champ held together with duct tape. It's rated @ 6 watts, but it screams! I put different speakers in it depending on how I want it to sound, but once those AX7's heat up, its a MONSTER. I don't know what year it is, but its got part of a CBS Music sticker in it.

I would love to have the 1959 Bassman amp. I perfer the 10 inch speaker to any other, and to have four of them in one cabinet is just too much!!!

With humbuckers, its the Vibrolux reverb. With single coils, its the Pro reverb. They're as portable as you can make them. One trip from the trunk to the stage!

Fender '63 reissue Vibroverb that I bought new in 1992...great, great amplifier.

...although, I do miss my old silverface Bassman Ten--that thang just PUNCHED tone!
