Thanks to everyone for your input. I'm glad I found this forum. I've been perusing YouTube and watching loads of videos. I don't want to do anything to mess this up. I've had this amp for 10 years and barely used it. My teenage son had decided he wants to play the electric guitar and that has finally given me the impetus to get it into shape. I'll update as I progress or with new questions.

Thanks again!

Speaker paper cone could be fragile. A broken speaker may cut value in half (?)

Buy it a low budget amp, store this $5k amp in a safe place, It is as piece of history

Do some research and find a good, reputable tech. The amp is worth it. I'd also completely bypass that ground switch.

Keep all old parts, ask him first.

I'm going to start with eliminating the ground switch. I've looked at a couple of schematics and at the wiring in the photo. Am I understanding this correctly?

I have a capacitor discharge tool coming on Thursday. I won't start working on anything until I make sure I'm safe.

If my 6v6 tuvbes are all black inside (I can't see into them) does that mean they are failing? If I tap them I get some microphonics.

No. Some older tubes have either black painted inner glass surface or graphite coating. The graphite is usually seen on mil spec tubes (ostensibly to help block EMF transmission).
