Sorry. Two different eras of VC. See the chassis numbers. One is BF and one is SF. Dimensions of cab and chassis are the same. Both speakers are 8A125. First one is about 10 years old. The second, about 5 years old.

HTH!

Ah that's what threw me off . They are 8A125 AlNiCo, you did recommend the 8F125 ceramic. Is there any way you can explain the difference in sound between them, I do know that is quite a request as sound is relative. I just want to get these ordered and I want to get it right the first time, and unfortunately I don't have the two to compare, so any help will do.
You also mentioned you had a replacement Cap Can I did also it is the 40/20/20/20 525VDC and it is 2 1/2 " tall will this be a problem with the standard basket?
Many Thanks

The 2½" cap can actually works to your advantage -- the original Mallory was about 3¼" tall.

The alnico speaker will compress a little more easily with a saturated input signal whereas the ceramic driver will sound a bit brighter and more articulate. But either Weber will likely be an improvement over the OEM alnico Oxford.

Thank you that helped a lot I think I would prefer the sound a bit brighter and more articulate, so the F it is. I can,t thank you both enough. Now the wait, I think I will play the VC this week till it gets here so I can give it an AB comparison out of the box, and than I guess from what I have read I will need another month to break it in.
Thanks again

For an expected break-in of one month, a couple of hours of vigorous play per day should do it (a little less if you specified a non-doped surround).

If/when the OEM Oxford in my '68 Bronco craps out I'm going to install Weber's 8A125 with light doping.

BTW, a totally-reversible mod you might consider is replacing the RCA-type speaker jack with a standard ¼" phone jack. That'll make it easier to connect your Vibro Champ to a larger speaker system -- say, a Bassman or Bandmaster cab (any 4-ohm load actually). These little six-watters sound positively monstrous through a pair of 12s.

Arjay Thanks I will get the light doping also, I was just about to send in my order when one of the drop downs asked Impedance and my choices are 4 ohms or 3.2 ohms. Now I know when I measure most 4 ohm speakers with a meter it comes to around 3.2 ohms DC resistance , I don't think that's what there implying. What would your choice be if you were to get one between the 3.2 and 4 ohm, would you choice the 20 or 30 watt, I am leaning towards the 20Watt
They don't make this stuff easy

If they offer a 3.2Ω coil, take it.

Twenty watts should be plenty.

(I'm sending you a PM)

Hope you like your Weber. I think the 8F125 is the best 8-inch instrument speaker. It's quite a bit more efficient than the Oxford, which came OEM. It's also a bit heavier, too.

Well it showed up yesterday, quite exited, but I didn't get home until 10:30 pm and the rest of my work week looks late, so it will have to stay in the cardboard until the weekend

I commend you for your patience. That's like a fresh, frosted, deep fried apple fritter and a piping hot cup of Joe under the nose.

Stock Speaker coming out
ImageWeber going in
ImageAll tightened up
ImageReady to go

After I plugged in the VC the hum that is there anyway was louder than normal, plugged my guitar in played a little, it did sound as a blanket was over my amp at it's normal stock speaker settings, as I turned my treble up to 9 it sounded a bit better, now I will need to do some tweaking between bass and treble. The hum was 250 Hz at 38db from about 3 to 4 feet from the amp. I put the stock speaker back in turned it on nothing plugged in, hum less audible from 3 to 4 feet, as it did not register on my meter. At about 8 inch from the grill I was getting the usual 125 Hz at 38db and 250 Hz sneaking in. I put the Weber back in offset hoping maybe the wires are to close to the transformer but no change. I am getting 250HZ the hottest than 125HZ less and even getting 500Hz sneaking in, seems all directive of the 125Hz I hear in the stock speaker, so I assume the stock speaker just does not produce these frequencies very well.
So after playing for a week I am getting use to it, knowing it should change as it breaks in. It definitely changed the way the amp sounds, seems like a different amp now, much louder and musical, breaks up fairly nice but needs to be quite loud now to get there. I will see what another 3 weeks will do.
When picked up it no longer feels like a toy, seems very solid now. And of course when I get time I will need to tame the hum, being it stays around 40db no matter where the volume is I seem to be quite louder than the hum when playing.
