I have (2) Fender Speakers. I have no idea their age or value. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The speakers are Fender Public Address, model no. 7001-C, serial no. 2065. They are black with the metal rounded edges, silver/gold mesh material on the covers. The speakers have 1-12", 32ohm speaker and 1-8", 4ohm speaker. Each speaker is approximately 4'-0" tall, 18" deep, and about 30" wide, and each weighs around 70 pounds or so. They sound UNBELIEVALBE, and are in 100 percent original condition. I can email pics if needed.

Can anyone help me with aging/value?

Thanks in advance

If you look on the back of the speakers themselves (not the cabinets) you should see a number stamped on the back of the paper cone. That number tells you what company manufactured the speakers and when. If you post it here, it probably won't take long until someone's figured it out for you.

Follow up from CatmanCoop, I was incorrect on the number of speakers in the cabinets. This is the first time that I have taken the backs of them off (I was afraid to hurt the value of them, it looks as tho I was the first one to ever take them off). The speakers have 3 12" speakers and one horn tweeter...all the capacitors say made in USA, and I believe from the research I have done they maybe a "black faced" speaker? Don't know if this is correct or not.
The numbers from the horn are as follows:
122978
465-133
OP 8AS102

It wasn't until this morning surfing the net that I realized that there are numbers on the "casing" part of the subs...I will have that information tomorrow.

Thanks again for any and all help

They have two sets of numbers:

First are (stamped in Green)

108498

Second are (also in Green)
1377112

Thanks again

The numbers on the casings of the 12 inch speakers indicate that they were manufactured in the 12th week of 1971 by CTS (Chicago Telephone Supply). Companies like CTS manufactured parts like speakers, potentiometers, capacitors, etc, and then companies like Fender bought these parts and made amplifiers with them. This means that they probably came from a Fender product built at the very beginning of the Silverface period. CTS is still around, and they make some of the highest quality parts for amplifier/guitars. I think Fender still gets a lot of their parts from them.

Thanks for the information. Good to finally hear from someone who knows what they are talking about. Would anyone know at all the insurance value of this pair of speakers? I have searched numerous websites, and no one has any information at all about 1971 Fender Public Address Speakers, especially ones that are so large.

When all else fails, you can always check eBay. Some similar speakers are bound to come on eventually, but if they do, make sure you insure them for a good bit more than what they went for on eBay, because things on eBay really do go for a lot cheaper than things out in the real world.

Wow, there IS another set of these somewhere. I have discovered a set of these in our local civic theatre that have not been used in years. Can anyone point me to a wiring diagram? I see there are a couple of jacks on the cabinets themselves but I don't see any pinouts describing how they connect to the speakers inside. I Googled Fender model 7001-c and this forum was the only thing that came up so I'm hoping someone can help.

Thanks

Just open up the back and see where the wires go. If you send me a picture I can tell you more about it.

OK I'll give it a try. These things are inbedded into a cabinet and I'm not 100% I can get to them or to a place where I can remove the back without having to take down the wall where they are mounted. I can't even get into the theatre again for another week or so but when I do I'll take a look-see and post again. thanks
