$550 for an original equipment '70's BASSMAN TEN in good condition is a really GOOD deal ... i paid $500 for mine -- sounds similar, but some of the tubes were replaced (good quality, but not FENDER) and he had the "blackface amp" bias mods redone too (not a bad upgrade, but also not original) ...

again, this sounds like a great deal ... if it comes with the original FENDER vinyl cover too, you have got a peach (and the grill cloth will likely be in decent shape, altho' replacing the grill cloth with FENDER OEM cloth is easy to do -- take a look at ANTIQUE ELECTRONIC SUPPLY, website = www.tubesandmore.com) ... these amps go for $800-$1000 or more in AUSTIN (a guitar town), because they are (in my opinion) one of the most versatile all-around amps that FENDER ever made -- great tone, killer blues/rock guitar amp, decent bass amp (good for small gig or in-home studio but doesn't have the balls for playing the FILMORE), excellent for blues harp, competent for keyboard (esp. a FENDER RHODES), and works really well as the bottom end for a PRO-3 spinning horn (B3/leslie combo) ...

like i said, this little amp will just about do whatever you want an instrument amp to do ... some say that versatility comes at a price, making it a "jack of all trades and master of none" ... i personally don't think so, and i don't have the money to buy a specialty amp for every function ... so in my home studio and playing gigs with friends, that versatility comes in VERY handy and i am VERY happy for it! ... i hope this works out for you ... :D

as a p.s. -- the BASSMAN TEN is a "no frills" amp -- it has no effects (no reverb, vibratone, etc.) ... it is a pure, straight-up FENDER tube tone generator (which is GREAT in my opinion), but you have to add your own effects as needed (using good pedals, etc.) and it doesn't have a lot of in-out interfaces to a board (pretty much have to MIC it -- which is the best anyway!) ... but it DOES have 2 inputs per channel (2 for the bass/normal "deep" channel, 2 for the bass/studio "bright" channel), which is WAY more than you get with most amps -- so it works great for impromptu gigs, etc. and is an especially handy feature as an all-around amp in a home studio (as i've mentioned before) ...

also, if the grill cloth is not torn up, you don't haveta replace it ... i am a "neat freak" and llove the bright look of that silver cloth with the blue lines in it against an all-black cab & dials with the brushed aluminum face ... but a "road warrior" look is not bad either -- and lots of people pay REAL money to get that aged look ... so it's completely up to you ...

rock on!
