Hey guys! I acquired this bassman some time ago from someone who didnt know anything about it. I knew enough to jump on it and it sounded great, so good enough for me. But now it needs its tubes replaced and i think through my research ive learned that some Bassman amps need a bias adjustment and others do not? Unfortunately the info tag on this amp is long gone, so i dont know if its a reissue, or some original relic or what. It does have a sticker inside that says 5f6a, so that seems to be like it could be original? Can anyone please tell me what i have, or at least be able to say whether i need to do a bias adjustment when i replace the tubes? Thanks guys!

Certainly not "original" as in from the 50s. Those were all hand-wired point to point, and Fender was based in Fullerton at the time.
This would be one of the "reissues", and based on the white PC board, I'd say later in the 90s or after 2000, but the Brea offices moved to Scottsdale before 2000.
That was likely built in Corona. It's a shame that the info panel on the cover plate is missing... that would confirm Corona or Ensenada.

BTW: You're going to want to replace that "dogbone" handle with something more stout, perhaps leather.
Those rubber handles were only used for a few years and they WILL break.

Almost looks like an original tweed Bassman, whose circuit and other parts (like the tube chart) were replaced with modern parts. Do you have photos of the speakers with printed codes?

:)

Ya... or a newer amp that's been fixed by replacing the tube board with PTP and real tube sockets.
Doesn't make sense that an original would have been modded with a modern control board... would be more likely to see a new one modded with CTS pots and hand-wired.

But the speakers look to be pre-CBS.

Definitely the Bassman equivalent of a "Partscaster" with no vintage value remaining if it was a 1st-generation.

Perhaps so but intrinsically if it powers up and produces forty sweet watts of Leo-inspired tone when a decent axe is plugged into it, it may sound like a million bucks. And that's all that any dedicated musician should care about.

It's a Reissue Bassman cabinet. Notice the plaque missing on the upper back panel (it's not faded where it was located) The speakers are early reissue Bassman.

+1

I don't think there's any doubt that it's an LTD edition of the 5F6-A Bassman Reissue in a very tastefully-aged cabinet.
