Hi,
I have an old Fender Concert Series II Amplifer from about 1983, probably one of the last hand wired Rivera era. It's getting old, it's never been serviced and is cracking and scratchy.

An Amp Tech has told me that I'm looking at up to £300 ($380) to get is sounding like new again.

Is £300 ($380) for a Fender Tube amp refit worth it? Or should I invest in something like a Fender Blues Deluxe instead (twice the price)?

Cheers,
J

IMO, yes!

If competently performed, with quality parts and tubes, you can expect a minimum of ten to twelve years of trouble-free service from the Concert II. The Blues Deluxe will never last that long. And the vintage Concert II will intrinsically be worth more than any contemporary, disposable amp.

Yes, keep it. The Concert II and the other amps that emerged from Paul Rivera's time at Fender are now getting the recognition they deserve. If you sell it, you will regret your decision later, like this guy

Of course its worth it! I own an '84 Concert (2x10) version I bought new all those years ago and its done tons of gigs over the years and I only just recently had it serviced. I'd say its a very reliable and great sounding amp. Last of Fenders hand wired and easily serviced amps. Lastly, these were constructed with a cold rolled steel chasis, finger jointed pine cabinet and quality components. Get it serviced and enjoy it for many years to come.
