As I was wondering about some things to check to get the verb back up running on this beauty that I've added to my collection, I swapped v3, v4 and v5 but still no verb.

Then I swapped the tank for another I have on my Twin, still nothing. Then I used some other RCA cables, still nothing...by this time IM FEELING IM GONNA CONQUER THIS SUCKER. So I order and patiently wait for a reverb choke (18 bux and shipping) still ZERO!!

Not sure where to go here......any suggestions would kill my frustration i have on what should be a SUPER COOL FRIDAY NIGHT :x :x

Too little info. Now where did I put my "ignore" button? Damn thing always disappears when it's most needed.

You first need to find out if the issue is in the send or return section of the circuit. A bad footswitch could short it out. Unplug the footswitch.
So turn it on and rap your knuckles on the tank. No sound, its the return. Pull the rca cables from the tank and touch the tips of both. There should be a loud hum on one tip. This is the return and should go into the output of the tank. Still no sound, its a bad tank.

If there is sound when you rap on the tank, then the problem is in the send part of the circuit. A likely culprit there is the cathode resistor on v3. It overheats and dies. They vary from 820 ohm to 2.2k or 2.7k. Its also possibly a bad tank. Take an ohm meter to the coils. Input should be 1 or 2 ohms, output a couple hundred. Open is not good

Tim, looks like he may have sub'ed out a good tank from his TR --- since no reverb. Maybe, pull out footswitch and see if the 'verb works. Footswitches are weak points in many of these amps.

Tim - Just returned from Vacation - Here is what i see on V3, but its not a resistor but rather a disc capacitor.

From Ryan4108

You look at V7 IMO

V1 are from right to left,V3 is the third one

Amp needs to see a qualified tech. Nice picture of V3, but nothing of the cathode resistor.

We do have a clue now of which silverface super reverb amp it is, either a 45W or 70W master volume w/pull boost due to the 560 pF cap from the cathode to the plate.

Hell, we don't even know if the tank is working or not, because the OP hasn't said yes, he heard sound or not, or he measured the resistance of the input or output of the tank.

Nothing pisses me off more than someone asking for help and they can't supply the simplest details.

Going back to lurk mode now, sorry I had to vent.

Made me sound harsh again. Either post a picture of the circuit board near V3, or post voltages on the pins of V3.

This is the info needed to diagnose your issue.
Was the reverb working and then suddenly quit or never worked since you had the amp?

Since the original reverb tank is out of the amp cabinet, determine if it is operational.
1. remove it from the bag
2. remove the cardboard cover
3. inspect the inside of the tank, obvious things like springs in their clips and no broken wires, what are the colors of the bobbins send and return
4. get the resistance reading of the input/output, center pin to ground(anywhere on the reverb tank body)

If the tank is good, check the cable for continuity. center to center/ground to ground of each side of the cable.

What are all the pin DC voltage readings w/ the amp powered on of V3(reverb send) & V4(reverb return)?

Does one of the footswitch RCA connectors have a shielded and grounded side, that is the reverb control?
If not, its the wrong footswitch and you'll have to add the ground by soldering the shielding to the outside of the RCA connector on the reverb side.
If the verb worked before w/ the footswitch you have, you may need to test the internals of the footswitch.

+1 to all the other troubleshooting recommendations.

My apologies to all here especially Ryan41018. My temper gets the better of me, and obviously I need to work harder on that. Hopefully Ryan will let us know what he found.

Well, we still need a wider shot to make sense of it. My instructions are standard troubleshooting procedures. If he follows em he should be able to provide some pertinent information, sooner or later......
