A superb analogy, sir!

+1 on the analogy!
Late for the party. Sweet amp, I will eventually find mine, and you got the price I am looking for. Yes you should do all of the preventive maintenance now before you regret it, and than you will get another 50 years of great service form this sweet amp, and for the 800 you paid it would be worth it as 66 Princeton's, according to Reverb are valued between 1750 and 2230

I've been looking for a nice silverface drip-edge Princeton or PR, too. On a drip-edge fad, at the moment. Here's a "1968," on eBay. But, it lack the drip-edge. Did the 1968 Princeton amps not have the aluminum frame?

Thanks!

My bet is it's a '69 or later, Steve.

No drip edge, metallic turquoise grill cloth, non-snowman knobs.

Since the seller has the inability to distinguish a Princeton from a Princeton Reverb, I'd question his ability to determine the year it was made.

I switched the amp over to a 3 prong power cable today. works great and the ground works fine according to my multi-meter. woohoo!

Next will be to change the caps.

Sounds like you're on the road, LC.

Something to consider......

Since the polarity ("ground") switch is no longer required, you might want to think about re-purposing the switch itself to perform a "standby" function. It's a simple, reversible, and transparent mod that will extend the service life of the amp's power tubes. My 1965 Princeton Reverb is so altered, requiring only the addition of a couple of wires to re-route the B+ for V5 and V6 to and from the switch.

I've actually thought about this already, and it is something I'd like to add down the road. Capacitors are first, then a standby switch.

A prudent course of action, sir.

Like Mud, I am late to the party, but just wanted to ad that you have a nice amp that deserves to be brought back to factory spec (+ safety updates) and make it ready to rock for another 50+ years as Leo intended.

Enjoy the journey!

:D
