Just been gifted a 1978 Princeton from under a stairwell for who knows how long. Covered in dust, gave it a clean and voila! fired up just like a bought one. All original apart from a few tubes and is missing the upper back panel.
As I'm getting a replacement are these a straight rectangle or are they like my 68 Princeton with the two diagonal wings on either end?

I believe Fender switched the design of the upper rear panel in the early/mid '70s, from the original type with the diagonal extensions to a straight rectangle. Thus for model year 1978 the rectangle would be appropriate. If your lower panel's screws use beauty washers be sure to order a quartet of them for the replacement upper panel's screws.

Thanks man had a feeling that was the case. The lower panel does have them beauty washers too. As it's missing I'll see if I can get the upper panel made locally any idea of the dimensions? Or where to get those beauty washers?

Height is 2-3/4", width is the same as the lower panel, constructed from 1/8" plywood. Local hardware stores usually stock beauty washers in various sizes. Fender's were nickel-plated but if those cannot be found then polished stainless-steel is an acceptable substitute.

By your user name, do you like drip-edge silverface era amps? I think they are some of the best looking Fender amps.

a big "+1" to that. Hope I don't get flamed for saying - I like the look better than the classic blackface.

One day I'd like to get a drip edge cab. Maybe, like this 1968 Showman 1 x 15-inch JBL D130 loaded. Make adapter to fit my 1968 Bassman head...

One day.

Theres always a show off! Very nice collection btw. Only have one drip edge though. The 68Silverface refers to a pro reverb head which I've put in to a 90s cab which slotted straight in so cab speakers and tank 90s. I bought a 68 (just coincidence) Princeton which is my main small gigging amp and gets used 3 nights a week. Then there's the 78 which was given to me the other day!
