Hi to all,
new here, glad to be member of the forum.
Here's my question. I happen to have a twin reverb power trans taken from a '69 twin. I recently build an exact blackface deluxe reverb clone with only difference that both trans plus chock comes from a ddri. I was wondering if i can replace the ddri pt to that from twin reverb. Surely, i'd have to make some changes, like replacing the tube rectifier to a solid state one. But, what about the amperes and the voltages that each pt provide? Can they be matched without harming the amp? Thank you in advance for your replies

In the world of DIY, almost anything is possible. :)
You'd need all new transformers (PT and OPT). New arrangement of main filter caps. A whole bunch of stuff.

Better to just find a nice TR, that needs a PT.

^^^^^ This.

IIRC, there is around 40vdc difference from the DR to the TR on the B+ line.

Finding a TR? I'd never thought of that...or perhaps i could build a tr clone using the PT i already have..i find that very attractive :D !

Thanks anyway for your reply

You would be building a "sleeper". That is, an amp that is way louder for no apparent reason. You could still use the 6v6 and blow peoples mind.

But day-um... the TR B+ level on a pair of 6V6?
That would give new definition to "Fender Sparkly Clean"

I have run across guys running 6v6 in their hrdx with no problems. Another in a Ceriatone 50 watt. I know it ain't right, but if they fit and it works, who am I to judge?

An hrdx is not a TR. Some are using 6v6jj in the hrdx.

Yes you can use this PT

Deluxe Reverb B+ is around 415 DC volts
Twin Reverb AC568 , 470 DC volts
AA769 405
Wich one is your 1969 Power transformer ?

Anyway, I do this kind of mod often in hand made / home made amps.
I'll use some Zener diodes in series on B+ center tap to reduce voltage, mostly 12 volts 5 watts zeners

I often talk about that mod on this forum

Hi man,
the PT i have is AA769, so i already know i'll end up with lower B+, but what's the deal? Do you think I should worry about it?

Shematic show 405 volts , it will work fine for a Deluxe Reverb.

As this PT are desing for working on 115 ac volts house voltage, today with 120 / 125 volts you will have more voltage and with less Output Power tube, little bit more.

Go ahead :)

I'm not sure it's wise to run the GZ34/5AR4 rectifier on a TR power transformer. It's not the PIV, but the current which the TR PT puts out, which may not be good for a GZ34.

You'll need to put in a solid-state rectifier. Maybe, a Copper Cap?

:?:

Current available at PT do not matter to use tubes or solid state. It is the current that the amp circuits demand who matters.
Like your wall outlets can supply 15 amperes and guitar amp need 3 amperes.

And current need for a Deluxe Reverb circuit is lower than a Twin Reverb circuit. A GZ34 will work fine.
