Hey ya'll, first post here.

I have a 76 SF Twin Reverb with MV that I'd like to put in a Bandmaster Reverb head unit along with some 8" speakers to have a smaller and lighter combo unit. This may seem like a backwards idea but I already have a Twin that I'd like to keep at home and use this one for some gigging since I don't need a lot of volume. I mainly do solo performances in small rooms so I don't need to compete with a band.

The Twin has been sitting in a garage for a while but sounds good since I've replaced a few tubes in it but there are a few things that are confusing me about it. It has 2 25w speakers which I know is too low for a Twin, it seems to be running ok at low volumes but I don't want to push it.

My plan is to remove 2 of the power tubes to make it run at 50w (I know this is its own subject to debate) and install 2 25-30w speakers in the Bandmaster cabinet. The goal of removing the power tubes is simply to have it run at the right wattage for the smaller speakers and I don't intend to crank the amp for tone/breakup purposes. I've also read that I'll need to double the speaker output impedance if I do this, its a 4ohm output so I would need 2 4ohm speakers wired in series to achieve 8ohms.

Ideally I'd like the end result to be something like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oXcSt3prVg
I realized after the fact that the Bandmaster is a 45w head so it can work with 2 25w speakers but I'm thinking that pulling the 2 output tubes will solve this problem?

Just looking for some input on this project since I already have this Twin as a spare and I have an empty Bandmaster cabinet ready to go.

Thanks!

Why don't you try shoehorning that Twin Reverb chassis into the Bandmaster Reverb cabinet?

Then report back why such a fit is physically impossible.

To make any such conversion work, you need a Dual Showman Reverb head cabinet.

Ya, you would be better off finding someone local who has a router (and knows how to use it to make nice Dovetail joints) and build a new cabinet.
The Twin cabinet is sized for 12s, you would need to replace the baffle or make a convertor plate to mount a pair of 8's. At this point, you're into woodworking anyways, may as well preserve the original hardware and build a new box for it, then you can go with whatever color covering and grille cloth you'd like.

The Bandmaster will physically fit into the Twin cabinet, but you'll have to block out from the sides to support the chassis or have a helper hold it while you run the screws in. You'd also have to drill through the top of the cabinet for the screws to hold the chassis........

And in the end, you aren't going to save that much weight. The Twin's transformers are heavy, but I think the majority of the weight is the cabinet.

If you really don't want that '76 Twin, I'll take it off your hands

Hey for this project I'll be putting the Twin chassis into the Bandmaster cabinet, not the other way around.
I have the 2 cabinets lined up next to each other and it seems like the mounting screws are in the same location.

Besides what you mentioned before, any input on reducing the output wattage to 50w so it can work with the 8" speakers? Thanks!
