To emulate quotes from about a zillion memes these days -

So let me get this started.... My 1962 brownface Vibrolux that was only a chassis when I found it.

What is the steel can on chassis ?
Over reverb transformer ?

Its a "soup can" over a Philco transformer. The amp was pulled out of a basement by my neighbor who runs estate sales. The previous owner had been a Philco rep..... tons of Philco stuff in the house. So I am assuming he found this amp and used what he needed from his supply to make it somehow function. We (my amp tech and I) left it because its just a great part of the amp's story. The tubes are military surplus..... which the basement was filled with. Amazingly enough..... there was only one wire that had been purposely disconnected from the circuit. My tech re-soldered it.... and the amp is just amazing.

FWIW - There is no reverb on this particular model. This is a 6G11.

There is no mojo to see a soup can than a vintage Philco transformer. I'll remove the can to see the Philco.

The transformer doesn't have a cover. The wiring is exposed. So its probably safer to have the soup can. HaHa.

Not that I know anything about porn of course, but my understanding is that not all those girls are pretty. Here's an ugly gal with a heart of gold:

G of S - looks like a 68? I think I'm seeing a drip edge around the grill cloth. Heart of gold for sure!

Arjay said it’s a ‘69. It does have the drip edge but it’s absolutely ruined. Looks like someone took a black spray can to it. Long term goal is to make it look as good as it sounds. 8)

But that's a "vintage" tin soup can so it qualifies................even though it may have been beans or mushrooms.

Well, if beauty is only skin deep --- this one has mighty thin skin.

After all, it's the tone that counts. :)

Cosmetic restorations are easy. Any competent Phender physician could have that old gal ready to strut her stuff in no time.

Arjay is right.

Here's my 1969 SFSR when I acquired it in July 2013.

And here it is after sprucing up by the end of Aug 2013.

Did it with A LOT of help and advise from Arjay and Steve.

Jmallard - WOW. Looks amazing.

BMW2002Ti - I love the look of that Champ. It looks just right. Some people like "player wear" on a guitar. I love an amp that looks like it's been used but not abused.

It will take some time (because time = money) but I will get mine looking as good as jmallards. Or at least close.
