I agree. I actually started copying the old school method by cutting 1/2" wide strips of 1/4" plywood and gluing them to a cardboard bottom for a tank base. Tim, I tried your little trick and used some CA to firm up the lamination's on a newer Accutronics tank that was really bad, almost useless, and it did calm it down some.

This also concerns me, a quote from a different forum -

"An amp tech who does a lot of Fender amp warranty work told me he spoke a while back with Fender about the poor quality of reverb tanks. This tech says Fender agrees -- they reject a significant percentage of the new-production tanks at their assembly plants."

If in fact that this is the case, what happens to this "significant percentage" of tanks when they're returned to the manufacturer? In the trash, I doubt it. In our hands, probably.

I do the same thing with the cardboard, interestingly, Music Man reverb installations also had cardboard under the tank.

Reverb failure is likely a warranty nightmare for Fender. It's the only delicate mechanical assembly in an amp. But i would expect it is from shipping damage, not QC issues.

That cardboard and wood strips thing was something Arjay told me about and I thought it was how Fender originally made them, and if Music Man did too, sounds like somewhere down the line somebody probably made a financial decision to delete it. Heck some of the Fender amps today don't even put it in a bag, let alone give it the suspension system...might be one of the reasons they don't sound as good as the older ones!?

Music Man didn't use the wood strips, just cardboard held with tape.
