The Bronco was part of a set that included the new-for-1968 Bronco student-model guitar, though either piece could also be purchased separately. The amp is identical to the equivalent-year Vibro Champ -- in fact early editions from '68 featured a Vibro Champ tube chart and circuit designation (Fender's graphics shop didn't have the Bronco tube charts ready in time for the amp's debut). The drip-edge cosmetics were discontinued with the advent of the 1969 model year.

Yep... likely among the first of what are now the Squier/Maestro student guitar/amp packages.
Did Silvertone or anyone else do it before Fender?

I recollect that Sears offered a guitar (Danelectro?) that came with a case that featured a built-in amp. Both pieces were pretty low budget. Montgomery-Wards may have offered a similar package.

Yeah they were hideous monstrosities. I was fortunate -- my first rig was a two-pickup Teisco "tulip" and a Heathkit PA27 that my Dad built for me. But I knew a couple of kids in junior high who had those Silvertone sets. No redeeming social value whatsoever.

My first was a wine red MIK Les Paul with a blank headstock and a zero fret. Plywood body, and they didn't try to hide it... transparent finish! Funny... it basically had a Custom neck... fully bound headstock and block inlays, black plastics, but the body was only bound on top (but was 5-layer like the headstock).
My first amp was a little POS from Best Products. Volume, tone, no distortion, not loud enough to compete with the drums in my head. It was quickly replaced with a Pomona "Rock" amp.

hi ,
sorry, i dont know how to post a pic on here, but have a pic and short desctription of fender logos from guitar cases .
looks to me like
they made a similar badge to the modern badge but without the dot/ "r" for registered trademark, and without made in usa. this was 67ish and then they went to the tailed logo. this confused me too until i looked it up and saw the pic

also, i did a neat trick on my grille cloth( u guys no doubt already know this but.... instead of trashing your original grille cloth because of a hole, cut a small section from the back and carefully weave it into the hole, its harder if the cloth is really faded at the front because inside the cloth is new looking, but it worked on my silverface champ that had a cigarette hole in the cloth, if yr gonna change the grille cloth anyway because of a hole, its worth a try!
cheers
mick
