So how do the non-reverb silver face models from mid '70's measure up to the ones with reverb from that era? Are they a good buy, based on the prices currently of the ones with reverb?

Fender amp with a reverb is a better sounding amp just because you can use the reverb wich give something to a amp.

Both amp are great anyway.

Prices ; I don't know

The prices for non reverb models of Princeton and Deluxe are comparatively lower. 4 to 600 for non reverb models around here. Look at completed listings on ebay.

To my ear, they sound better. The 3.3meg resistor used for the reverb dropping resistor pushes fine harmonic detail into the noise floor, never to emerge again.
While they don't have reverb, they do have better harmonic detail, which, again to my ear, is more pleasant than a springy reverb.

Worth noting that even though nothing quite delivers like a real Fender reverb, there are lots of great reverb pedals out there that do a pretty convincing job. If the amp is 4-600 cheaper, that gives you a nice pedal budget.

+1
or you could get a Fender '63 Reissue Reverb Unit for $ 500 to $600, than you have some great reverb
