Anyone know where I could find deep blue pilot light jewels for my vintage Fender amps? I see that Fender has a blue jewel but it looks like the nice turquoise ones that come on the '68 VM amps. There are some others available on the internet - they look nice and blue until you put them on your amp - then they're sorta clear with some purple and red around the edges - kinda ugly...

...that's where I ordered them from! They look blue but with the amp on they're clear with purple/red around the edge. I figure they could be a bad batch - I'll try again later!

Yeah, about 15 years ago I bought a Fender blue jewel and it did the same purple/clear/red thing. I tried thinning some blue model paint and painted the inside/back of the jewel. Made it darker but it still had the prismatic thing going on.

I know real blue ones exist (or at least existed)... the reason I'm looking for some is for a gift for a buddy who played in a local band back in the '60's called the 'Blue Mystics' - one of their things was all their fender amps had blue pilot light jewels. They were really blue, a deep rich blue - as blue as the red ones are red. I wrote to the guy I got the ugly ones from - he said that's how they came from the manufacturer... another of life's mysteries I guess

Yes, they do exist. I had a Kustom 36 Coupe. The stock screw-on jewel was blue -- not turquoise, not purple/clear/red.

A google search suggests that Kustom jewels don't fit Fenders.

But it wouldn't hurt to keep your prismatic one in your pocket and check out the used sections of stores looking for a Kustom. They'd probably let you check to see if they're interchangeable and if so might let you swap them. (Especially if you offer to put a couple bucks in the salesman's pocket.)

Interestingly I have a Kustom 100 bass amp (white/silver sparkle). Anyways, when I got it new (just about 50 years ago!) it had a purple pilot light jewel! And, it was the exact same as the '60's Fender amps' pilot light jewels and interchangeable. Sometimes I'd use the purple one in my Fender Pro Reverb and the red one in the Kustom. And, I used to see the Blue Mystics' blue pilot lights in person - they were really blue!
